The effect of antenna mutual coupling on signal correlation and bit error rate (BER) of a multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) system has been modelled. A MIMO-OFDM model with correlated channels is presented. The correlation matrices are determined with the antenna mutual coupling taken into account. The effect of antenna mutual coupling is characterised using the receiving and transmitting mutual impedances. A rigorous expression for the BER of the system employing quadrature phase-shift keying digital modulation is derived. A 2×2 MIMO-OFDM system using the Alamouti space-time block code for OFDM symbol transmission over 64 sub-channels spanning a 20MHz band centred at 5.2GHz is simulated. The simulated results show that the antenna mutual coupling has a significant effect on the BER performance, especially when the spacing between the antenna elements is small.

Performance analysis of multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing systems under the influence of antenna mutual coupling effect

We present a novel model of the dielectric cubic corner, that is suitable for inclusion in a standard electromagnetic (EM) simulator. The model starts from a consideration of the equivalent current densities on the cube facets. It proceeds by employing a classical multipole expansion of the Green's function at the corner and introduces the novel principle of simultaneous transverse resonance diffraction (STRD) in order to determine the order of singularity. The theory is validated by numerical simulations, yielding information about the accuracy of the near field around a 90 deg. dielectric corner.

A New Analytical Model of Diffraction by 3D Dielectric Corners

In this paper, we present a novel model for the design of micrometric optical antennas. The accuracy of the model allows to evaluate the near field generated by a micrometric aperture in parallel-plate waveguides. The model starts from the equivalent source distribution of magnetic current excitation of a rectangular aperture and it proceeds by employing the multipole expansion of the Green's function applied to the aperture, including the analysis of the electromagnetic field in proximity of metallic discontinuities. The presented method introduces the novel principle of simultaneous transverse resonance diffraction which determines the order of singularity for different edges at optical frequencies. The theory is validated by numerical simulations and experimental results yielding information about the accuracy of the radiated field solution. The approach is suitable for inclusion in standard electromagnetic simulators.
