Digital Communication Systems

For overcoming the vehicle to vehicle frequent disconnection problem in VANETs data dissemination, several approaches have been proposed, including the provision of Road Side Units (RSUs). Due to the short wireless transmission range of RSUs and vehicle mobility, a vehicle spends only a short period of time inside the range of an RSU. This limitation, together with possible overload of RSUs sited near busy road junctions, may mean that requests from vehicles are not served within the prescribed deadlines. In this paper, we propose a cooperative load balancing approach among RSUs, in which an RSU can transfer the overload requests to other RSUs. Load transfer is done based on a number of factors: request delay tolerance, current load of the transferee RSU, and the direction in which the vehicle is heading. Using a series of simulation experiments, we demonstrate that the proposed cooperative load balancing approach outperforms the non-cooperative (stand-alone) approaches in a wide range of scenarios based on our performance metrics.

This paper deals with the design of a Modbus Enabled Zigbee Wireless Sensor Network “WSN” for better Interactive Industrial Automation The Modbus protocol is embedded into Zigbee stack, providing a friendly interface to observe the information in the wireless network efficiently and to provide the On Demand Response to the requests It consists of a Coordinator and the sensor nodes The coordinator is a centralized unit which is attached to the monitoring PC It collects the information from all other nodes on demand and provides to the end user through TCP/IP network The sensor nodes are made intelligent for controlling the plant These nodes are attached with the Zigbee for remote controlling in case of changing the preset values and handling any issues The coordinator is implemented using the ARM9 controller and the Sensor Nodes are implemented using the ARM7 microcontroller RTLinux is used at the coordinator for real time operations and the Sensor nodes are programmed using the Embedded C The experimental results obtained demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed system in terms of the low power consumption, low cost, targeted towards automation and remote control applications

Zigbee Wireless Sensor Network for better Interactive Industrial Automation

In an effort to develop a complete DSRC system for ITS application, the authors have studied a lot of experimental facts which they are exploiting for the design. The wireless technology has been chosen properly which is capable of tackling the severe interferences present in the open road. For road to car communication, a combined digital technology like spread spectrum along with diversity reception will help a lot in this regard. Accordingly, the choice is for FHSS based space diversity system which will utilize carrier frequency around 5.8 GHz ISM band with available bandwidth of 80 MHz and no license. For efficient design, the radio channel is characterized on which the design is based. To have the full DSRC system, a fixed wireless connectivity at Ku band is also explored for road side base station to master switching center connectivity.

Dedicated short range communications (DSRC) for intelligent transport system

Lots of emerging wireless technologies has evolved with their own advantages and disadvantages. Through the convergence of technologies, one can eliminate the drawbacks of the other. In this work, the authors first established limitations of the popular WiFi (IEEE 802.11 wireless router) radio in terms of high end multimedia data services and then redesign the IEEE 802.11 N(draft) wireless router based cells taking WiMax technology as the back bone network which results in a WMCN System. Instead of using standard DSP/BIOS based RTOS kernel, they are working on XPC target based RTOS kernel provided by Matlab using a standalone PC. This approach has enhanced the performance of the total system. The modeling and simulation of the different sub systems of WMCN are realized using Matlab & Simulink. These simulations are being ported through XPC target mode to a standalone PC for the completion of the project. Additionally, the theoretical design of Pico cell structure for the campus has been finalized. Accordingly, they are trying to invest and develop 40 such WMCN systems and run these systems for wireless multimedia broadband service.
