Journal ArticleDOI
Exciton-polaritons in van der Waals heterostructures embedded in tunable microcavities.
S. Dufferwiel,S. Schwarz,Freddie Withers,Aa A. P. Trichet,Feng Li,M. Sich,O. Del Pozo-Zamudio,C. Clark,Anton Nalitov,Anton Nalitov,Dmitry Solnyshkov,Guillaume Malpuech,K. S. Novoselov,Jm M. Smith,M. S. Skolnick,Dn N. Krizhanovskii,Ai I. Tartakovskii +16 more
TL;DR: The results pave the way for room-temperature polaritonic devices based on multiple-quantum-well van der Waals heterostructures, where polariton condensation and electrical polariton injection through the incorporation of graphene contacts may be realized.
Journal ArticleDOI
WSe2 Light-Emitting Tunneling Transistors with Enhanced Brightness at Room Temperature
Freddie Withers,O. Del Pozo-Zamudio,S. Schwarz,S. Dufferwiel,Paul M. Walker,T. Godde,A. P. Rooney,Ali Gholinia,Colin R. Woods,Peter Blake,Sarah J. Haigh,Kenji Watanabe,T. Taniguchi,Igor L. Aleiner,Andre K. Geim,Vladimir I. Fal'ko,Alexander I. Tartakovskii,K. S. Novoselov +17 more
TL;DR: It is shown that the EQE of WSe2 devices grows with temperature, with room temperature EQE reaching 5%, which is 250× more than the previous best performance of MoS2 and MoSe2 quantum wells in ambient conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Valley-addressable polaritons in atomically thin semiconductors
S. Dufferwiel,T. P. Lyons,Dmitry Solnyshkov,Aurelien A. P. Trichet,Freddie Withers,Freddie Withers,S. Schwarz,Guillaume Malpuech,Jason M. Smith,K. S. Novoselov,M. S. Skolnick,D. N. Krizhanovskii,Alexander I. Tartakovskii +12 more
TL;DR: The authors excite valley-addressable polaritons in MoSe2 incorporated in a photonic microcavity to reveal the valley pseudospin retention and robust states demonstrated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Two-Dimensional Metal–Chalcogenide Films in Tunable Optical Microcavities
S. Schwarz,S. Dufferwiel,Paul M. Walker,Freddie Withers,Aurelien A. P. Trichet,M. Sich,Feng Li,E. A. Chekhovich,D. N. Borisenko,N. N. Kolesnikov,Kostya S. Novoselov,M. S. Skolnick,Jason M. Smith,D. N. Krizhanovskii,Alexander I. Tartakovskii +14 more
TL;DR: In this article, a 10-fold PL lifetime shortening was achieved, as a consequence of Purcell enhancement of the spontaneous emission rate of photoluminescence (PL).
Journal ArticleDOI
Spin Textures of Exciton-Polaritons in a Tunable Microcavity with Large TE-TM Splitting.
S. Dufferwiel,Feng Li,Emiliano Cancellieri,L. Giriunas,Aurelien A. P. Trichet,D. M. Whittaker,Paul M. Walker,F. Fras,F. Fras,Edmund Clarke,Jason M. Smith,M. S. Skolnick,D. N. Krizhanovskii +12 more
TL;DR: Depending on the strength and anisotropy of the cavity confining potential and of the TE-TM induced splitting, the exciton-polariton emissions exhibit either spin-vortex-like patterns or linear polarization, in good agreement with theoretical modeling.
