TL;DR: Early in 1839 the Friend of India noticed the prominent attention being given to India by the Aborigines Protection Society in England, especially the activities in its behalf of the eloquent advocate of negro emancipation, George Thompson, and remarked: ‘His [George Thompson] proceedings take away every lingering hope, that any of our old-school politicians might still be cherishing, of a return to the dark system of secret counsel and silent as mentioned in this paper.
