Process-evaluation of tropospheric humidity simulated by general circulation models using water vapor isotopologues: 1. Comparison between models and observations
Camille Risi,Camille Risi,David Noone,John Worden,Christian Frankenberg,Gabriele Stiller,Michael Kiefer,Bernd Funke,Kaley A. Walker,Peter F. Bernath,Matthias Schneider,Matthias Schneider,Debra Wunch,Vanessa Sherlock,Nicholas M. Deutscher,Nicholas M. Deutscher,David W. T. Griffith,Paul O. Wennberg,Kimberly Strong,Dan Smale,Emmanuel Mahieu,Sabine Barthlott,Frank Hase,Omar García,Justus Notholt,Thorsten Warneke,Geoffrey C. Toon,David S. Sayres,Sandrine Bony,Jeonghoon Lee,D. P. Brown,Ryu Uemura,Christophe Sturm +32 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a large number of isotopic data sets (four satellite, sixteen ground-based remote-sensing, five surface in situ and three aircraft data sets) are analyzed to determine how H2O and HDO measurements in water vapor can be used to detect and diagnose biases in the representation of processes controlling tropospheric humidity in atmospheric general circulation models (GCMs).
Journal ArticleDOI
Observed and simulated time evolution of HCl, ClONO§2 and HF total column abundances.
R. Kohlhepp,Roland Ruhnke,Martyn P. Chipperfield,M. De Mazière,Justus Notholt,Sabine Barthlott,R. L. Batchelor,R. L. Batchelor,Ronald D. Blatherwick,T. Blumenstock,M. T. Coffey,Philippe Demoulin,H. Taylor,G. Vanhaelewyn,Thorsten Warneke,Cynthia H. Whaley,M Wiehle,Stephen W. Wood +54 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors provide a near-global overview on ground-based measurements of the two major stratospheric chlorine reservoir species, HCl and ClONO2, with a focus on the time range 2000-2009.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ground-based remote sensing of tropospheric water vapour isotopologues within the project MUSICA
Matthias Schneider,Matthias Schneider,Sabine Barthlott,Frank Hase,Yenny González,Kei Yoshimura,Omaira García,Eliezer Sepúlveda,A. J. Gomez-Pelaez,M. Gisi,R. Kohlhepp,S. Dohe,Thomas Blumenstock,A. Wiegele,Emanuel Christner,Kimberly Strong,Dan Weaver,Mathias Palm,Nicholas M. Deutscher,Nicholas M. Deutscher,Thorsten Warneke,Justus Notholt,Bernard Lejeune,Philippe Demoulin,Nicholas B. Jones,David W. T. Griffith,Dan Smale,John Robinson +27 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a new method allowing for an extensive and straightforward characterisation of the complex nature of such isotopologue remote sensing datasets, and they demonstrate that the MUSICA humidity profiles are representative for most of the troposphere with a vertical resolution ranging from about 2 km (in the lower troposphere) to 8 km(in the upper troposphere), with an estimated precision of better than 10%.
Journal ArticleDOI
Accomplishments of the MUSICA project to provide accurate, long-term, global and high-resolution observationsof tropospheric {H 2 O, δ D} pairs – a review
Matthias Schneider,A. Wiegele,Sabine Barthlott,Yenny González,Yenny González,Emanuel Christner,Christoph Dyroff,Omaira García,Frank Hase,Thomas Blumenstock,Eliezer Sepúlveda,Gizaw Mengistu Tsidu,Gizaw Mengistu Tsidu,Samuel Takele Kenea,Sergio Rodríguez,Javier Andrey,Javier Andrey +16 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present the final MUSICA products, and discuss the characteristics and potential of the NDACC/FTIR and MetOp/IASI {H2O,δD} data pairs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Detecting moisture transport pathways to the subtropical North Atlantic free troposphere using paired H 2 O- δ D in situ measurements
Yenny González,Yenny González,Matthias Schneider,Christoph Dyroff,Sergio Rodríguez,Emanuel Christner,Omaira García,Emilio Cuevas,Juan José de Bustos,Ramón Ramos,Carmen Guirado-Fuentes,Sabine Barthlott,A. Wiegele,Eliezer Sepúlveda +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, two years of in situ measurements of water vapour (H2O) and its isotopologue ratio (δD, the standardized ratio between H216O and HD16O), made at two remote mountain sites on Tenerife in the subtropical North Atlantic.
