Book ChapterDOI
Regeneration of myelin and oligodendrocytes in the central nervous system.
TL;DR: This chapter discusses the potential for the regeneration of central nervous system (CNS) myelin and its formative and supportive cell, the oligodendrocyte and suggests that the neuron itself may be a more plastic cell than previously thought and may be capable of regeneration.
Journal ArticleDOI
A phase II study of topotecan in patients with anaplastic oligodendroglioma or anaplastic mixed oligoastrocytoma.
Karl Belanger,David R. Macdonald,Gregory Cairncross,Stan Z. Gertler,Peter A. Forsyth,Susan Burdette-Radoux,Julie Bergeron,Denis Soulières,Samuel K. Ludwin,Nancy Wainman,Elizabeth Eisenhauer +10 more
TL;DR: Topotecan did not demonstrate efficacy as a salvage chemotherapy monotherapy after exposure to procarbazine, CCNU and vincristine and further trials with different agents in this indication are certainly warranted.
Journal ArticleDOI
Neurotoxicity of quinolinate in the rat nucleus basilis magnocellularis
TL;DR: Co-injections of QUIN with 3,4-diaminopyridine increased the neurotoxicity of quinolinic acid, while diaminopyrsidine alone was not toxic and this was antagonized by co-injection of QUin with dipicolinic Acid or Mg2+.
Journal ArticleDOI
Global democratic consensus on neuropathological disease criteria.
Cristian Achim,Roland N. Auer,Catherine Bergeron,Adriana Cardozo,Manuel Deprez,Rob de Vos,Charles Duyckaerts,Rupert Egensperger,Margaret M. Esiri,Matthew P. Frosch,Caterina Giannini,Hans H. Goebel,Manuel B. Graeber,David I. Graham,Françoise Gray,Matti Haltia,Yoshio Hashizume,Kenji Ikeda,James W. Ironside,Georg W. Kreutzberg,Peter L. Lantos,James Lowe,Samuel K. Ludwin,Yoh Matsumoto,Yngve Olsson,Atsushi Sasaki,Bernd W. Scheithauer,Hitoshi Takahashi,Markus Tolnay,John Q. Trojanowski,Dirk Troost,Henry deF. Webster +31 more
TL;DR: An international consensus on neuropathological disease criteria does not exist, except in the field of brain tumours where the WHO backs an existing histological classification and the proposed way of developing such criteria is for recognised experts to prepare core definitions that are published anonymously online.
Journal Article
Acute fulminant symmetrical vasculitic polyneuropathy: need for early biopsy.
TL;DR: In both patients the diagnosis of necrotizing vasculitis was established by peripheral nerve biopsy and recovery followed treatment with prednisone and cyclophosphamide, and biopsy of an involved nerve should be routinely sought in unexplained acute axonal polyneuropathies.
