TL;DR: Among the regions of the ribosomal cistron, the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region has the highest probability of successful identification for the broadest range of fungi, with the most clearly defined barcode gap between inter- and intraspecific variation.

TL;DR: It is indicated that there may have been at least four independent losses of the flagellum in the kingdom Fungi, and the enigmatic microsporidia seem to be derived from an endoparasitic chytrid ancestor similar to Rozella allomycis, on the earliest diverging branch of the fungal phylogenetic tree.

TL;DR: This study provides a phylogenetic synthesis for the Fungi and a framework for future phylogenetic studies on fungi and the impact of this newly discovered phylogenetic structure on supraordinal classifications is discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
A multigene phylogeny of the Dothideomycetes using four nuclear loci.
Conrad L. Schoch,R. A. Shoemaker,Keith A. Seifert,Sarah Hambleton,Joseph W. Spatafora,Pedro W. Crous +5 more
TL;DR: An expanded multigene phylogeny of the Dothideomycetes is presented and a new order of Botryosphaeriales is proposed based on strong molecular support for the placement of Mycosphaerellaceae and Piedraiaceae within the Capnodiales and introduce Davidiellaceae as a new family to accommodate species of Davidiella with Cladosporium anamorphs.

TL;DR: A novel high fidelity primer pair for TEF1α has potential as a supplementary DNA barcode with superior resolution to ITS, while TOPI and LNS2 are attractive for the Pucciniomycotina, for which universal primers for ribosomal subunits often fail.
