TL;DR: In this article, the influence of graphite on the wear behavior of Al 7075/Al 2 O 3 /5.% graphite hybrid composite was investigated and the results revealed the effectiveness of incorporating graphite in the composite for gaining wear reduction.
Abstract: This work investigated the influence of graphite on the wear behavior of Al 7075/Al 2 O 3 /5 wt.% graphite hybrid composite. The investigation reveals the effectiveness of incorporation of graphite in the composite for gaining wear reduction. The Al 7075 (aluminium alloy 7075) reinforced with Al 2 O 3 –graphite were investigated. The composites were fabricated using liquid metallurgy route. Ceramic particles along with solid lubricating materials were incorporated into aluminium alloy matrix to accomplish reduction in both wear resistance and coefficient of friction. The Al 7075/Al 2 O 3 /graphite hybrid composite was prepared with 5 wt.% graphite particles addition and 2, 4, 6 and 8 wt.% of Al 2 O 3 . The hardness, tensile strength, flexural strength and compression strength of the Al 7075–Al 2 O 3 –graphite hybrid composites are found to be increased by increased weight percentage of ceramic phase. The wear properties of the hybrid composites containing graphite exhibited the superior wear-resistance properties.

TL;DR: This work discusses the practice of problem solving, testing hypotheses about statistical parameters, calculating and interpreting confidence limits, tolerance limits and prediction limits, and setting up and interpreting control charts.
Abstract: THE best adjective to describe this work is \"sweep11 ing.\" The range of subject matter is so broad that it can almost be described as containing everything except fuzzy set theory. Included are explicit discussions of the basics of probability (relegated to an appendix); the practice of problem solving; testing hypotheses about statistical parameters; calculating and interpreting confidence limits; tolerance limits and prediction limits; setting up and interpreting control charts; design of experiments; analysis of variance; line and surface fitting; and maximum likelihood procedures. If you can think of something that is not in this list, then it probably means I have overlooked it.

TL;DR: An up-to-date review of the CAPPResearch works, a critical analysis of journals that publish CAPP research works, and an understanding of the future direction in the field are provided.
Abstract: For the past three decades, computer-aided process planning (CAPP) has attracted a large amount of research interest. A huge volume of literature has been published on this subject. Today, CAPP research faces new challenges owing to the dynamic markets and business globalisation. Thus, there is an urgent need to ascertain the current status and identify future trends of CAPP. Covering articles published on the subjects of CAPP in the past 10 years or so, this article aims to provide an up-to-date review of the CAPP research works, a critical analysis of journals that publish CAPP research works, and an understanding of the future direction in the field. First, general information is provided on CAPP. The past reviews are summarised. Discussions about the recent CAPP research are presented in a number of categories, i.e. feature-based technologies, knowledge-based systems, artificial neural networks, genetic algorithms, fuzzy set theory and fuzzy logic, Petri nets, agent-based technology, Internet-based technology, STEP-compliant CAPP and other emerging technologies. Research on some specific aspects of CAPP is also provided. Discussions and analysis of the methods are then presented based on the data gathered from the Elsevier's Scopus abstract and citation database. The concepts of 'Subject Strength' of a journal and 'technology impact factor' are introduced and used for discussions based on the publication data. The former is used to gauge the level of focus of a journal on a particular research subject/domain, whereas the latter is used to assess the level of impact of a particular technology, in terms of citation counts. Finally, a discussion on the future development is presented.

TL;DR: In this paper, a combination of transmission electron microscopy, electrical measurements, and electrostatic calculations showed that flexoelectricity provides a means of tuning the physical properties of ferroelectric epitaxial thin films.
Abstract: We report on nanoscale strain gradients in ferroelectric HoMnO3 epitaxial thin films, resulting in a giant flexoelectric effect. Using grazing-incidence in-plane x-ray diffraction, we measured strain gradients in the films, which were 6 or 7 orders of magnitude larger than typical values reported for bulk oxides. The combination of transmission electron microscopy, electrical measurements, and electrostatic calculations showed that flexoelectricity provides a means of tuning the physical properties of ferroelectric epitaxial thin films, such as domain configurations and hysteresis curves.
