Abstract: Author(s): Cowan, John | Abstract: The International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (MVP) provides an overview of current best practice techniques available for verifying results of energy efficiency, water efficiency, and renewable energy projects. It may also be used by facility operators to assess and improve facility performance. Energy conservation measures (ECMs) covered herein include fuel saving measures, water efficiency measures, load shifting and energy reductions through installation or retrofit of equipment, and/or modification of operating procedures. The IPMVP is not intended to prescribe contractual terms between buyers and sellers of efficiency services, although it provides guidance on some of these issues. Once other contractual issues are decided, this document can help in the selection of the measurement a verification (MaV) approach that best matches: i) project costs and savings magnitude, ii) technology-specific requirements, and iii) risk allocation between buyer and seller, i.e., which party is responsible for installed equipment performance and which party is responsible for achieving long term energy savings. Two dimensions of ECM performance verification are addressed in this document: Savings determination technique using available data of suitable quality and disclosure of data and analysis enabling one party to perform saving determinations while another verifies it.

Abstract: The present study was carried out to find out the prevalence and etiology of nutritional anaemia among preschool children from an urban slum. Randomly selected 300 children aged 3 months-3 yr were analysed over a period of one year for estimating prevalence of nutritional anaemia. Prevalence was also assessed by the rise in haemoglobin after 8 wk of haematinic supplementation in 159 of the 300 subjects. Ninety anaemic children were evaluated for the etiology of anaemia. Prevalence of anaemia, as judged by WHO recommended 'cut-off' value of haemoglobin < 11 g/dl, was 76 per cent while comparable value of 74.8 per cent was derived by response to haematinic supplementation. Pure iron deficiency anaemia (IDA) was detected in 41.4 per cent (37/90) of anaemic children. Vitamin B12 deficiency alone or in combination with iron was diagnosed in 14.4 and 22.2 per cent anaemic children respectively. Similarly folate deficiency, IDA with infection and anaemia of chronic diseases (ACD) was diagnosed in 2.2, 3.3 and 12.2 per cent cases respectively. Childhood anaemia continues to be a significant public health problem in preschoolers and iron deficiency is by far the commonest nutritional cause of anaemia. Vitamin B12 deficiency per se or in combination with iron is an important yet not commonly recognised cause of anaemias in preschool children in the community.

Abstract: This paper provides a rigorous literature review in a field of glass-fiber composites. Glass-fiber composite is a type of fiber-reinforced polymer composites. Glass-fiber composite holds good properties such as low density, high strength, and easy processing, so widely used in aerospace, automotive, and construction. Fabrication of glass-fiber composite has been discussed in the present study. Combining the glass-fiber with other fibers into a single polymer matrix results in the development of hybrid glass-fiber composites. The hybridization in glass-fiber composites raised new ideas for future in the field of composites.

Abstract: The present study reports on the performance characteristics of the centrifugal slurry pump with multi-sized particulate slurry of bottom ash and fly ash mixtures. The performance characteristic of the pump was experimentally evaluated at rotational speed 1450 rpm for bottom ash slurries with and without the addition of fly ash in the concentration range of 10% to 50% (by weight). Addition of fly ash in the bottom ash was varied from 10% to 30% (by weight). The pump total head, overall efficiency, and pump input power at different flow rates were evaluated. The performance characteristics results show that the value of head and the efficiency of the pump depend on the solid concentration. It was also observed that the performance parameter of the pump strongly depends on slurry properties. The addition of fine particles fly ash in the coarser particles of bottom ash slurry, leads to reduce the additional head losses in the pump.
