TL;DR: In this paper, a method of determining a location relevant to a user of a communication device is presented, which involves determining general location information of the user and determining a list of location parameters from the generalized location information.
Abstract: A method of determining a location relevant to a user of a communication device is provided. The method involves determining general location information of the location relevant to the user and determining a list of location parameters from the general location information. Specific location of the communication device is also determined. The location relevant to the user is then determined by comparing the list of location parameters with the specific location information. Systems and programs for using the method are also provided.

TL;DR: In this paper, an apparatus and method for selective distributed speech recognition includes a dialog manager that is capable of receiving a grammar type indicator (170), which can be coupled to an external speech recognition engine (108), which may be disposed on a communication network.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for selective distributed speech recognition includes a dialog manager (104) that is capable of receiving a grammar type indicator (170). The dialog manager (104) is capable of being coupled to an external speech recognition engine (108), which may be disposed on a communication network (142). The apparatus and method further includes an audio receiver (102) coupled to the dialog manager (104) wherein the audio receiver (104) receives a speech input (110) and provides an encoded audio input (112) to the dialog manager (104). The method and apparatus also includes an embedded speech recognition engine (106) coupled to the dialog manager (104), such that the dialog manager (104) selects to distribute the encoded audio input (112) to either the embedded speech recognition engine (106) or the external speech recognition engine (108) based on the corresponding grammar type indicator (170).

TL;DR: In this paper, the plurality of user agent programs are operatively coupled with a content server during a session to enable concurrent multimodal interaction, such as call/session termination.
Abstract: A multimodal network element (14) facilitates concurrent multimodal communication sessions through differing user agent programs (30, 34) on one or more devices (12, 16). For example, a user agent program communicating in a voice mode, such as a voice browser (34) in a voice gateway (16) that includes a speech engine and call/session termination, is synchronized with another user agent program operating in a different modality, such as a graphical browser (30) on a mobile device (12). The plurality of user agent programs (30, 34) are operatively coupled with a content server (18) during a session to enable concurrent multimodal interaction.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method and apparatus maintains, during non-session conditions and on a per user basis, concurrent multimodal session status information of user agent programs configured for different concurrent modality communication during the same session.
Abstract: A method and apparatus maintains, during non-session conditions and on a per user basis, concurrent multimodal session status information of user agent programs configured for different concurrent modality communication during the same session, and re-establish a concurrent multimodal session in response to accessing the concurrent multimodal session status information.

TL;DR: In this article, an apparatus and method for adaptive broadcast transmission is presented, in which a broadcast transmission can be received and a negative acknowledgement signal can be sent on a common uplink channel in response to determining the broadcast channel quality is insufficient.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for adaptive broadcast transmission. A broadcast transmission can be received (620). Insufficiency of a broadcast channel quality can be determined (630). A negative acknowledgement signal can be sent on a common uplink channel in response to determining the broadcast channel quality is insufficient (640). The negative acknowledgement signal can be received on the common uplink channel at another location (830), the negative acknowledgement signal indicating broadcast channel quality is insufficient. The broadcast channel quality can be adjusted in response to receiving the negative acknowledgement signal (840).

TL;DR: In this paper, a system for receiving speech and non-speech communications of natural language questions and commands, transcribing the speech and NN communications to textual messages, and executing the questions and/or commands is presented.
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for receiving speech and non-speech communications of natural language questions and/or commands, transcribing the speech and non-speech communications to textual messages, and executing the questions and/or commands. The invention applies context, prior information, domain knowledge, and user specific profile data to achieve a natural environment for one or more users presenting questions or commands across multiple domains. The systems and methods creates, stores and uses extensive personal profile information for each user, thereby improving the reliability of determining the context of the speech and non-speech communications and presenting the expected results for a particular question or command.

TL;DR: In this paper, a system is presented providing content to a plurality of handheld devices (including musical selections), including musical selections, which can access a server over the Internet via a WIFI or other similar wireless interconnection and can download songs requested by a user from the server or from other users using, e.g., a P2P protocol.
Abstract: A system is presented providing content to a plurality of handheld devices (including musical selections). The devices can access a server over the Internet via a WIFI or other similar wireless interconnection and can download songs requested by a user from the server or from other users using, e.g., a P2P protocol. All downloads are governed by applicable DRM rules. Content and playlists may also be pushed by a server from other sources and means including, e.g., podcasting, based on predetermined rules, favorite preferences of users, and other criteria.

TL;DR: In this article, a mobile system is provided that includes speech-based and non-speech-based interfaces for telematics applications that identify and uses context, prior information, domain knowledge, and user specific profile data to achieve a natural environment for users that submit requests and/or commands in multiple domains.
Abstract: A mobile system is provided that includes speech-based and non-speech-based interfaces for telematics applications. The mobile system identifies and uses context, prior information, domain knowledge, and user specific profile data to achieve a natural environment for users that submit requests and/or commands in multiple domains. The invention creates, stores and uses extensive personal profile information for each user, thereby improving the reliability of determining the context and presenting the expected results for a particular question or command. The invention may organize domain specific behavior and information into agents, that are distributable or updateable over a wide area network.
