Abstract: Although the construction industry has been rapidly increased at its size and technologies as a locomotive of the economy development in Korea, most construction companies have not paid their attention on the construction risks seriously. However, they have been experienced a lot of business deterioration and project instability during the IMF crisis and WTO entry, and trying to figure out a way to manage the construction intrinsic risks systematically. Some top ranked construction companies have already developed and been implementing a risk management system for the oversea construction projects applying for the marketing and bidding stage, but not for the domestic construction projects during construction phase yet. This paper proposes a construction risk management system model for the site personnel to understand and manipulate very easily in the construction project.

Abstract: Recently, the government is very active to secure the financial resources by inducement of the private investment in fulfilling an extension of the SOC facilities. One of the reasons that the private investors hesitate to put money into the private finance projects, however, is the lack of knowledges about various risks to be possibly incurred during the project execution. This research was performed as one of the preparation works in order for a A engineering company to act as a prime contractor of the project management service in the private finance project, and finally developed the risk factor dictionary as a new concept to satisfy the requirement of a A company and overcome a limit of the existing risk checklists. Although the risk factor dictionary looks like the only simplified table to be the risk factors identified in three dimensions, the impacts and response strategies expressed in narrative and multi-items, and the responsible parties indicated, it has great meanings to get a lot of direct and indirect accomplishments over the simplified table during the development process.

Abstract: Recently, a research of the urban regeneration has been performed very actively. This is one of the efforts to resolve various social and economic problems coming from the existing deteriorated building and facilities by new urban development or redevelopment. However, an urban regeneration has a characteristic to be unable to ensure the project performance due to the exposed numerous risks coming from the various and complex stake-holders, and its mega sizes. This paper proposes the method of risk performance index in order to improve an efficiency of performance measurement expanding to the risk view point from the existing integrated cost/schedule performance measurement. Abstract: As the recent construction projects have been carried out as a mixed-use complex project that includes architecture, civil, mechanical, electrical, and landscape, as well as become bigger and high-rise with the increased repetitive works, the TACT technique has received more attention as an effective method for achieving a target completion date by securing the continuous works. Although the TACT technique can maintain a steady flow without the interruption of works in order to utilize the resources of the repetitive works, it can not be considered as the systematic scheduling technique because the schedule computations are not possible as well as a critical path can not be recognized. This paper proposes the applicabilities of scheduling and monitoring the TACT schedule by the BDM technique as comparing and analyzing the methodologies for apartment finish works by the Excel, the Primavera(P6) based on the PDM technique, and the Beeliner based on the BDM technique that is a new networking technique, respectively.

Abstract: Today, most construction projects have been higher, bigger, and more complicated gradually. So the domestic construction companies have been trying to understand overall construction process and relationships between activities, and adopted various management techniques and tools in order to perform a systematic and effective scheduling. However numerous problems have been occurred on the practical applications because most existing scheduling softwares adapt ADM and PDM techniques. One of them, PDM, is so uneffective because it represents the overlapping relationships between two consecutive activities only by the combinations of start and finish points between two activities. In order to supplement the demerit of PDM, Beeline Diagramming Method(BDM) is proposed as a new networking technique, it can represent two-way multiple overlapping relationships between two activities directly. However there are occurring a loop phenomenon on applying two-way multiple overlapping relationships. This research proposes and verifies the schedule computation method of two-way multiple overlapping relationships on the BDM network.

Abstract: The China–Pakistan economic corridor (CPEC) is a collection of different ongoing projects including transportation, infrastructure, the Gwadar seaport, oil pipeline, and internet connection zone projects. The Chinese government has adopted a development strategy for infrastructure growth and investment in Pakistani and Asian territories through the CPEC project. Transportation is considered the backbone of the CPEC. In addition to the CPEC project is the linked “belt and road initiative” (BRI) project, which aims to enhance regional connectivity and is a harbinger of the future in Asia, as well as in European countries. However, uncertain situations, such as a lack of proper planning, security, and political stability, hinder the growth and development of infrastructure. Three corridors of the CPEC road transportation network, namely, the eastern, the western, and future central alignment, have been examined through a master supposition group using the Delphi technique, which has never been applied to the road transportation network in the CPEC plan. The review is designed to draw master conclusions and demonstrate an outcome for round one and two in the present work. Round one and two investigate the impact of stakeholder support, politicians’ roles, terrorism, security situations, poverty, and economic crises. Using the Delphi technique within the host country hinders the construction of the road network. The results obtained through the appraisal have justified the present potential endeavor.

Abstract: The importance of preliminary analysis of risk and cost for overseas plant construction projects is more and more emphasized due to intensive cost bidding competition. The vigorous competition between contractors causes a financial loss due to the low price bidding and risks factors of the project. Accordingly, the main purpose of this study is to present an analysis model that relates the risk and cost of overseas plant construction projects and to develop a prototype tool for the risk and cost analysis based on the model. Moreover, a case study is conducted using this prototype to analyze its risk and cost. The main contributions of this study are as follows: 1) A model and a prototype tool are developed for an analysis that relates the risk and cost 2) Risk factors are studied for a case analysis object and their impact has been numerically evaluated. As a result of the cost analysis, the risk cost of risk factors is defined and the related variation range of contract price, profit (residual profit) and loss are given. This research contributes in presenting an analysis method that relates the risk factors to the cost. Also, the examined results from a case study can be used as a reference data to predict the variation in the risk cost due to the risk factors in overseas plant construction projects.

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to predict the risk cost and the bidding price of a plant construction project based on the surveyed risk information. This is carried out by analyzing the risk information of completed plant construction projects and by applying it to a new project. Accordingly, a model structure is designed and a prototype program is developed for the analysis. In addition, a case study is conducted using this prototype program to demonstrate the model’s conformity and practicability. The methodology, process, and main results of this study are as follows. 1) Based on the risk information collected from the completed construction projects, a model structure is designed and its prototype program is developed to predict the risk cost and the bidding price of a new construction project. The advantage of using this program is that it provides quick and reliable analysis of risk information, which can be used effectively in time-limited circumstances such as the project bidding stage. 2) A case study is conducted to verify the conformity and practicability of the prototype program by analyzing the risk information of two completed plant projects. Moreover, using this risk information, the risk cost and the bidding price of a new plant project is estimated. As a result, the proposed model and the prototype program are examined to give a proper estimation of the bidding price, considering the risk cost in plant construction projects.

Abstract: Recently, CBD(Central Business District) mixed-used regeneration programs(mega-projects) composing various types of residential, commercial, office, and cultural facilities are being promoted to maximize land and space utilization in the inside and outside of the country. It has advantages that meet the functions and the needs of each facility and create new spatial function. On the other hand, several problems are pointed out, such as large project cost, long-term project period and complicated interests among the diverse stakeholders. Especially, CBD mixed-used regeneration is influenced in numerous risks from the early stage of the project, such as land utilization restriction, approval delay, conflicts with surrounding area and traffic impact assessment. Nevertheless, failure cases of projects are being increased, since the studies on the program processes, the parties participating in the project, and the risk factors related to the large-scale CBD mixed-used regeneration are not sufficient. Therefore, this study aims to develop a risk breakdown structure based on business processes and develop a three-dimensional performance measurement method in connection to the structure, and ultimately provide a risk management process appropriate for large-scale projects.
