Journal ArticleDOI
Combined cardiac resynchronization and implantable cardioversion defibrillation in advanced chronic heart failure: the MIRACLE ICD Trial.
James B. Young,William T. Abraham,Andrew L. Smith,Angel R. Leon,Randy Lieberman,Bruce L. Wilkoff,Robert C. Canby,John S. Schroeder,L. Bing Liem,Shelley A. Hall,Kevin R. Wheelan +10 more
TL;DR: Cardiac resynchronization improved quality of life, functional status, and exercise capacity in patients with moderate to severe HF, a wide QRS interval, and life-threatening arrhythmias without proarrhythmia or compromised ICD function.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of Cardiac Resynchronization on Disease Progression in Patients With Left Ventricular Systolic Dysfunction, an Indication for an Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator, and Mildly Symptomatic Chronic Heart Failure
William T. Abraham,James B. Young,Angel R. Leon,Stuart W. Adler,Alan J. Bank,Shelley A. Hall,Randy Lieberman,L. Bing Liem,John B. O’Connell,John S. Schroeder,Kevin R. Wheelan +10 more
TL;DR: In patients with mild heart failure symptoms on optimal medical therapy with a wide QRS complex and an ICD indication, CRT did not alter exercise capacity but did result in significant improvement in cardiac structure and function and composite clinical response over 6 months.
Journal ArticleDOI
SCAI clinical expert consensus statement on the classification of cardiogenic shock: This document was endorsed by the American College of Cardiology (ACC), the American Heart Association (AHA), the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM), and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) in April 2019
David A. Baran,Cindy L. Grines,Steven R. Bailey,Daniel Burkhoff,Shelley A. Hall,Timothy D. Henry,Steven M. Hollenberg,Navin K. Kapur,William W. O'Neill,Joseph P. Ornato,Kelly Stelling,Holger Thiele,Sean van Diepen,Srihari S. Naidu +13 more
TL;DR: The outcome of cardiogenic shock complicating myocardial infarction has not appreciably changed in the last 30 years despite the development of various percutaneous mechanical circulatory support options.
Journal ArticleDOI
The American Society of Transplantation Consensus Conference on the Use of Hepatitis C Viremic Donors in Solid Organ Transplantation
Josh Levitsky,Richard N. Formica,Roy D. Bloom,Michael Charlton,Michael P. Curry,John J. Friedewald,Joelle Y. Friedman,David S. Goldberg,Shelley A. Hall,Michael G. Ison,Tiffany E. Kaiser,David K. Klassen,G Klintmalm,Jon A. Kobashigawa,AnnMarie Liapakis,K. O'Conner,Peter P. Reese,Darren Stewart,Norah A. Terrault,Nicole Theodoropoulos,James F. Trotter,Elizabeth C. Verna,Michael L. Volk +22 more
TL;DR: An urgent need exists for prospective research protocols that study the risk versus benefit of using organs for hepatitis C–infected donors, because these organs are frequently discarded and typically come from younger donors, and have the potential to save lives on the solid organ transplant waitlist.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multidisciplinary approach to cardiac and pulmonary vascular disease risk assessment in liver transplantation: An evaluation of the evidence and consensus recommendations
Lisa B. VanWagner,Matthew E. Harinstein,James R. Runo,Christopher Darling,Marina Serper,Shelley A. Hall,Jon A. Kobashigawa,Laura L. Hammel +7 more
TL;DR: A critical assessment of the diagnosis of cardiac and pulmonary vascular disease and interventions aimed at managing these conditions in LT candidates is provided to offer guidance for clinicians and identify gaps in knowledge for future investigations.
