TL;DR: This note provides an improved asymptotic stability condition for time-delay systems in terms of a strict linear matrix inequality that avoids bounding certain cross terms which often leads to conservatism.
Abstract: This note provides an improved asymptotic stability condition for time-delay systems in terms of a strict linear matrix inequality. Unlike previous methods, the mathematical development avoids bounding certain cross terms which often leads to conservatism. When time-varying norm-bounded uncertainties appear in a delay system, an improved robust delay-dependent stability condition is also given. Examples are provided to demonstrate the reduced conservatism of the proposed conditions.

TL;DR: Improved delay-dependent stochastic stability and bounded real lemma (BRL) for Markovian delay systems are obtained by introducing some slack matrix variables and the conservatism caused by either model transformation or bounding techniques is reduced.
Abstract: This paper deals with the problems of delay-dependent robust Hinfin control and filtering for Markovian jump linear systems with norm-bounded parameter uncertainties and time-varying delays. In terms of linear matrix inequalities, improved delay-dependent stochastic stability and bounded real lemma (BRL) for Markovian delay systems are obtained by introducing some slack matrix variables. The conservatism caused by either model transformation or bounding techniques is reduced. Based on the proposed BRL, sufficient conditions for the solvability of the robust Hinfin control and Hinfin filtering problems are proposed, respectively. Dynamic output feedback controllers and full-order filters, which guarantee the resulting closed-loop system and the error system, respectively, to be stochastically stable and satisfy a prescribed Hinfin performance level for all delays no larger than a given upper bound, are constructed. Numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the reduced conservatism of the proposed results in this paper.

TL;DR: The purpose of this paper is to solve the H∞, L2 - L∞ passive and dissipative filtering problems in a unified framework by using a new performance index that is referred to as extended dissipativity, and the effectiveness of the proposed methods is substantiated with three illustrative examples.
Abstract: This paper is concerned with the design of mode-dependent and mode-independent filters for continuous-time linear Markovian jump systems (MJSs) with time-varying delays. Different from the existing studies in the literature, the purpose of this paper is to solve the H∞, L2 - L∞ passive and dissipative filtering problems in a unified framework. This purpose is successfully realized by using a new performance index that is referred to as extended dissipativity. The extended dissipative inequality contains several weighting matrices. By tuning the weighting matrices, the extended dissipativity will reduce to the H∞ performance, L2 - L∞ performance, passivity and dissipativity, respectively. Delay-dependent conditions for the analysis of stochastic stability and extended dissipativity for MJSs with time-varying delays are obtained by using a mode-dependent Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional together with a novel integral inequality. Based on these conditions, the design methods for mode-dependent and mode-independent filters are developed based on linear matrix inequalities. The designed filters guarantee that the resulting filtering error system is stochastically stable and extended dissipative for any admissible delays. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed methods is substantiated with three illustrative examples.

TL;DR: A new fairly comprehensive system model, semi-Markov jump system with singular perturbations, which is more general than Markov jump model is employed to describe the phenomena of random abrupt changes in structure and parameters of the systems.
Abstract: The slow state variables feedback stabilization problem for semi-Markov jump discrete-time systems with slow sampling singular perturbations is discussed in this work. A new fairly comprehensive system model, semi-Markov jump system with singular perturbations, which is more general than Markov jump model, is employed to describe the phenomena of random abrupt changes in structure and parameters of the systems. Based on a slow state variables feedback control scheme, a novel technique to design the desired controller is presented and the allowed maximum of singular perturbation parameter can be calculated. With the help of the discrete-time semi-Markov kernel approach, some sojourn-time-dependent and less-conservative sufficient conditions are established via a novel matrix decoupling technique to ensure the solvability of the problem to be addressed. Finally, an illustrative example is given to show the superiority and usefulness of the proposed method.

TL;DR: This paper proposes gradient descent algorithms for a class of utility functions which encode optimal coverage and sensing policies which are adaptive, distributed, asynchronous, and verifiably correct.
Abstract: This paper presents control and coordination algorithms for groups of vehicles. The focus is on autonomous vehicle networks performing distributed sensing tasks where each vehicle plays the role of a mobile tunable sensor. The paper proposes gradient descent algorithms for a class of utility functions which encode optimal coverage and sensing policies. The resulting closed-loop behavior is adaptive, distributed, asynchronous, and verifiably correct.
