In the context of the scope, time, cost, and quality constraints, failure is not uncommon in project management. While small projects have 70% chances of success, large projects virtually have no chance of meeting the quadruple constraints. While there is no dearth of research on project risk management, the manifestation of barriers to project risk management is a less dwelt topic. The success of project management is oftentimes based on the understanding of barriers to effective risk management, application of appropriate risk management methodology, proactive leadership to avoid barriers, workers’ attitude, adequate resources, organizational culture, and involvement of top management. This paper represents various risk categories and barriers to risk management in domestic and international projects through literature survey and feedback from project professionals. After analysing the various modelling methods used in project risk management literature, interpretive structural modelling (ISM) and MICMAC analysis have been used to analyse interactions among the barriers and prioritize them. The analysis indicates that lack of top management support, lack of formal training, and lack of addressing cultural differences are the high priority barriers, among many others.

Although much is known about disaster recovery and business continuance, not much research has been produced on how businesses can leverage other technology frameworks to assist information technology disaster recovery. The problem was the lack of organizational knowledge to recover from computer crime interruptions given the maturity level of existing disaster recovery programs. The purpose of this Delphi study was to understand how disaster recovery controls and processes can be modified to improve response to a computer crime caused business interruption. The overarching research question in this study was to understand what factors emerge relative to the ability of disaster recovery programs to respond to disasters caused by computer crimes. The Effects of Computer Crimes on the Management of Disaster Recovery

Risk is not always avoidable, but it is controllable. The aim of this study is to identify whether those techniques are effective in reducing software failure. This motivates the authors to continue the effort to enrich the managing software project risks with consider mining and quantitative approach with large data set. In this study, two new techniques are introduced namely stepwise multiple regression analysis and fuzzy multiple regression to manage the software risks. Two evaluation procedures such as MMRE and Pred (25) is used to compare the accuracy of techniques. The model’s accuracy slightly improves in stepwise multiple regression rather than fuzzy multiple regression. This study will guide software managers to apply software risk management practices with real world software development organizations and verify the effectiveness of the new techniques and approaches on a software project. The study has been conducted on a group of software project using survey questionnaire. It is hope that this will enable software managers improve their decision to increase the probability of software project success.

A comparison of stepwise and fuzzy multiple regression analysis techniques for managing software project risks: analysis phase

Techniques and models for mitigating risk in software development projects classified into three categories–namely, qualitative, quantitative, and intelligent approaches. This paper is to review the quantitative and intelligent risk models in software risk management for software development projects. Indeed, this area needs more effort from scholars and researchers in quantitative and intelligent risk models to mitigate risks. As future work, we will use these hybrid models of quantitative and intelligent for mitigating software risks in cloud computing such as neural network, genetic algorithm and others artificial intelligence techniques.

Quantitative and Intelligent Risk Models in Risk Management for Constructing Software Development Projects: A Review

Risk management and success in projects are highly intertwined – better approaches to project risk management tend to increase chances of project success in terms of achieving scope & quality, schedule and cost targets. The process of responding to risk factors during a project’s life cycle is a crucial aspect of risk management referred to as risk response strategies, in this paper. The current research explores the status of risk response strategies applied in the software development projects in India. India provides a young IT-savvy English-speaking population, which is also cost effective. Other than the workforce, the environment for implementation of software projects in India is different from the matured economies. Risk management process is a commonly discussed theme, though its implementation in practice has a huge scope for improvement in India. The paper talks about four fundamental treatments to risk response – Avoidance, Transference, Mitigation and Acceptance (ATMA). From a primary data of 302 project managers, the paper attempts to address the risk response factors that lead to successful achievement of project scope & quality, schedule and cost targets, by using a series of regressions followed with Seemingly Unrelated Regression Equations (SURE) modelling. Mitigation emerged as the most significant risk response strategy to achieve project targets. Acceptance, transference, and avoidance of risk were mostly manifested in the forms of transparency in communication across stakeholders, careful study of the nature of risks and close coordination between project team, customers/end-users and top management.

Keeping a wary eye on risks has become an integral part of project management, not only in manufacturing firms, but also in software companies This paper focuses on risk categories that influence project success in software companies originating from human resources, environment and organizational culture, or are project specific To identify and assess the effectiveness of these four categories, authors conducted a survey of 50 Information technology (IT) firms to investigate their risk management practices during software development lifecycle of a project Exploratory design using the survey research methodology that includes structured questionnaires and interaction of 50 IT companies The survey asked the participants about the outcome of specific project, issues in technical manpower and commitment of the top management Data collected was analyzed using statistical models The study finds three factors that played crucial roles in ensuring project success in Indian software projects In contrast with similar international studies this study identifies factors like application of project risk management process, qualified project manager, and quality of client acceptance which are significant to project success The study also focuses on three major Indian software firms with global presence to understand the implications of the above findings

Context: Gender is an important factor in determining mental health and mental disease. Women are particularly vulnerable to mental health disorders due to a lack of family support, stigma surrounding mental illness, separation, emotional stress, financial dependency, domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. Destitute or homeless women have a disproportionately high risk of mental illness. Aims: To determine the prevalence of psychiatric illness and related psychosocial determinants among inmates of a state-run home for women. Settings and Design: This is a single-center, cross-sectional descriptive study. Inmates of a state home for women in the northern part of Karnataka who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were recruited. Materials and Methods: Eighty participants were evaluated using semi-structured proforma for psycho-social aspects. MINI-PLUS version 5.0 was used to screen the inmates for psychiatric morbidity and the diagnosis was confirmed using the International Classification of Diseases-10. Appropriate statistical tools were applied for the analysis. Results: Majority of the participants (78.75%) were diagnosed to have some psychiatric illness. The most common psychiatric morbidity was psychosis (35%), followed by affective disorders such as major depressive disorder (15%), bipolar disorders (10%), somatization disorders (7.5%), dysthymia (6.5%), and anxiety disorder (5%). Some of the psychosocial factors assessed, namely, marital status, employment status, and poor family support were significantly associated with psychiatric morbidity. Conclusion: This research focuses on psychiatric morbidity, overall clinical profile, and the impact of numerous psychosocial factors on mental health in this vulnerable population. To enhance the general mental health of such a vulnerable group, better policymaking, timely psychiatric interventions, and rehabilitation are required.

Psychiatric morbidity and associated psycho-social factors among inmates of state home for women in Northern Karnataka

Web applications use inputs from Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) requests sent by the users to determine the response. Attackers can tamper with any part of the HTTP request, including the Uniform Resource Locator (URL), query string, headers, cookies, form fields and hidden fields and attempt to bypass the application’s security mechanisms. Common input-tampering attacks include forced browsing, command insertions, cross-site scripting, buffer overflows, format string attacks, Structured Query Language (SQL) injection, cookie poisoning and hidden field manipulation. In this paper, we have proposed an algorithm to detect hidden fields, the form fields and URL parameters manipulation and the algorithm is implemented in Java Server Pages (JSPTM). Security aspects are illustrated with fine remarks.
