TL;DR: The study revealed that the clinical and socio-demographic profile of clientele seen in this service is consistent with other training clinics in Rio Grande do Sul and in other states of Brazil.
Abstract: This study aims to delineate the clinical and socio-demographic profile of the clients assisted by a school-clinic of Psychology of a private university in southern Brazil. We assessed the clinical records of 604 patients under individual psychological interventions between 2003 and 2007. The results showed that: a) the majority of patients were women, but among children the majority were of masculine gender; b) the main complaints were of depressive symptoms, but variations were also verified in accordance with age and gender; c) most of the patients had sought psychological care spontaneously; d) dropouts levels were similar to those of other studies in this context; e) no significant associations were found among dropout and age, gender and waiting time. The study revealed that the clinical and socio-demographic profile of clientele seen in this service is consistent with other training clinics in Rio Grande do Sul and in other states of Brazil. The results indicate the overall effectiveness of the service and of the adopted model of brief psychotherapy. Inconsistencies in patient’s records have been responsible for the methodological limitations of the study. The research enabled the adoption of several procedures to improve the quality of records and to support further studies.

TL;DR: In this paper, an exploracao exploratoria sobre a relevância de cuidados esteticos na autoestima de adolescentes institucionalizadas was conducted.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated dropout in psychoanalytic psychotherapy (PP) and found that patients discontinue treatment on their own, due to a variety of factors, such as initial goals, readiness to change, insight capacity, awareness of personal problems, resistance, and transference.
Abstract: Introduction: Even though it is expected that patients and therapist will agree on when to terminate psychotherapy, quite often patients discontinue treatment on their own. This study aims to better understand dropout in psychoanalytic psychotherapy (PP). Method: Baseline and post-treatment interviews were conducted with six adult women classified by their therapists as dropout patients at a PP outpatient clinic. Results were analyzed using Bardin's content analysis. Results: Content analysis generated five categories (reasons for treatment, goals, readiness to change, previous treatment, transference) for the baseline interviews and three categories (change process, results, interruption) for post-treatment interviews. Unclear treatment goals, low readiness to change, early signs of negative transference and resistance, and absence of recognition of their own participation in problems emerged in baseline interviews. In most cases, the patient's evaluation of the therapeutic relationship was not determinant of dropout. Therapeutic gains, dissatisfaction, and resistance during the psychotherapeutic process seemed to be associated with noncompliance. Conclusions: Decisions to initiate, continue, or quit PP depend on multiple factors, such as initial goals, readiness to change, insight capacity, awareness of personal problems, resistance, and transference. However, these factors should be considered in view of the methodological limitations of this study. Further investigation of PP dropout is still necessary.

TL;DR: In this paper, the occurrence of behavioral problems considering gender and education of the child, and evaluate the influence between behavior problems and academic performance was evaluated by caregivers of 90 preschool children and 96 school children.
Abstract: The literature about behavioral problems in childhood points out the importance of the study of its prevalence to prevention and treatment, however, studies of the influence of gender and education are scarce. This study aimed to describe and compare, as assessed by caregivers, the occurrence of behavioral problems considering gender and education of the child, and evaluate the influence between behavior problems and academic performance. Caregivers of 90 preschool children and of 96 school children participated. The Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) was applied. The results showed a high prevalence of behavioral problems, with prominence of boys. 56.86% of them with externalizing and total problems. The comparison of categories that both versions of the CBCL (preschool and school) have in common shows that emotional problems and anxiety problems differentiated the groups. At school age more children had problems. Lower scores of academic performance were noted at the group with behavior problems.
