We present PROB, an animation and model checking tool for the B method PROB's animation facilities allow users to gain confidence in their specifications, and unlike the animator provided by the B-Toolkit, the user does not have to guess the right values for the operation arguments or choice variables PROB contains a model checker and a constraint-based checker, both of which can be used to detect various errors in B specifications We present our first experiences in using PROB on several case studies, highlighting that PROB enables users to uncover errors that are not easily discovered by existing tools

ProB: A model checker for B

A transformation is underway in electric power and energy systems (EPESs) to provide clean distributed energy for sustainable global economic growth. Internet of Things (IoT) is at the forefront of this transformation imparting capabilities, such as real-time monitoring, situational awareness and intelligence, control, and cyber security to transform the existing EPES into intelligent cyber-enabled EPES, which is more efficient, secure, reliable, resilient, and sustainable. Additionally, digitizing the electric power ecosystem using IoT improves asset visibility, optimal management of distributed generation, eliminates energy wastage, and create savings. IoT has a significant impact on EPESs and offers several opportunities for growth and development. There are several challenges with the deployment of IoT for EPESs. Viable solutions need to be developed to overcome these challenges to ensure continued growth of IoT for EPESs. The advancements in computational intelligence capabilities can evolve an intelligent IoT system by emulating biological nervous systems with cognitive computation, streaming and distributed analytics including at the edge and device levels. This review paper provides an assessment of the role, impact and challenges of IoT in transforming EPESs.

Review of Internet of Things (IoT) in Electric Power and Energy Systems

The smart home is considered as an essential domain in Internet of Things (IoT) applications, it is an interconnected home where all types of things interact with each other via the Internet. This helps to automate the home by making it smart and interconnected. However, at the same time, it raises a great concern of the privacy and security for the users due to its capability to be controlled remotely. Hence, the rapid technologically growth of IoT raises abundant challenges such as how to provide the home users with safe and secure services keeping privacy in the account and how to manage the smart home successfully under the controlled condition to avoid any further secrecy or theft of personal data. A number of the research papers are available to address these critical issues, researchers presented different approaches to overcome these stated issues. This research review will analyze smart home approaches, challenges and will suggest possible solutions for them and illustrate open issues that still need to be addressed.

Going home will take on a new meaning and inviting with the increasing prevalence of IoT sensors being incorporated into the modern household. A smart home is comprised of IoT sensors, IoT actuators and a computational system thinking machine for communication, computation, control and visualizations (in-house and remote), which work together to benefit the homeowner in multiple ways. Three of the major benefits include improving the energy efficiency of a smart home, actively monitoring the home environment, and enhancing the residents' social well-being. A survey of existing IoT sensors, an assessment of their technical and economical parameters, the prominent research initiatives to enhance the functionality of IoT sensors and key features of future IoT sensors are presented in this paper.

A smart home is a building in which ubiquitous computing and information technology are deployed to expect and respond to the occupants' needs and to enhance their everyday's life. To achieve this goal, smart homes rely on Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) for collecting all kind of personal data. Nevertheless, information privacy is one of the most sensitive issues for users nowadays. Therefore it becomes of utmost importance to ensure this privacy in smart homes. This paper overviews existing techniques for content-based privacy and contextual-based privacy in smart home environments according to a set of proposed criteria.

An overview of privacy preserving techniques in smart home Wireless Sensor Networks

This paper proposes a new theory called the Viable System Ontology Theory, which is an interrelation among two well-known theories in social science. The former is the Viability theory that is widely recognized through the Viable System Model, and covers the function design of a business. The latter is Performance in Social Interaction (PSI) Theory that provides a deep understanding of business processes and covers the construction design of a business. Both theories have the same referent with different extents. In addition, PSI theory starts when the Viability theory approaches its limits. In order to consider systematically both theories, relationships between their concepts are established. This interrelation is inspired by Bunge Systemic Classification of Concepts. The Viable System Ontology Theory intends to support the ontological design of a viable system, its operation and business processes. Furthermore, it provides a way of interrelating existing theories through the analysis of their concepts.

The integrated communication infrastructure is the core of the Smart Grid architecture. Its two-way communication and information flow provides this network with all needed resources in order to control and manage all connected components from the utility to the customer side. This latter, named the Home Area Network or HAN, is a dedicated network connecting smart devices inside the customer home, and using different solutions. In order to avoid problems and anomalies along the process life cycle of developing a new solution for HAN network, the modeling and validation is one of the most powerful tools to achieve this goal. This paper presents a practical case study of such validation. It intends to validate a HAN SDL model, described in a previous work, using model checking techniques. It introduces a method to translate the SDL model to a Promela model using an intermediate format IF. After the generation of the Promela model, verification is performed to ensure that some functional properties are satisfied. The desired properties are defined in Linear Temporal Logic (LTL), and DTSPIN (an extension of SPIN with discrete time) model checker is used to verify the correctness of the model.
