Abstract: This paper investigates comprehensive knowledge regarding joining CFRP and aluminium alloys in available literature in terms of available methods, bonding processing and mechanism and properties. The methods employed comprise the use of adhesive, self-piercing rivet, bolt, clinching and welding to join only CFRP and aluminium alloys. The non-thermal joining methods received great attention though the welding process has high potential in joining these materials. Except adhesive bonding and welding, other joining methods require the penetration of metallic pins through joining parts and therefore, surface preparation is unimportant. No model is found to predict the properties of jointed structures, which makes it difficult to select one over another in applications. The choice of bonding methods depends primarily on the specific applications. The load-bearing mechanism of bolted joints is predominantly the friction that is the first stage resistance. Hybrid joints performance is enhanced by combining rivets, clinch or bolts with adhesives.

Abstract: The process of material cutting and fracture by high velocity water jets is a complex series of phenomena which may involve compression, tension, shear, erosion, wears, cracking, wave propagation, and cavitations damage. This makes the exact analysis of the jet cutting process to be very complicated. The problem of water jet coal cutting is a multiresponse problem. There are two output variables, depth of cut and cutting width whose optimization will result in the increase in the productivity of coal cutting. In this paper, a Taguchi–Fuzzy decision method has been used to determine the effective process parameters for improving the productivity of coal mines. The Taguchi method of experimental design is a widely accepted technique used for producing high quality products at low cost. The optimization of multiple responses in complex processes is common; therefore, to reduce the degree of uncertainty during the decision making, fuzzy rule-based reasoning was integrated with the Taguchi loss function.

Abstract: The wide range of aluminium variants (alloys and composites) has made it an important material for aviation, automotive components, auto-transmission locomotive section units, SCUBA tanks, ship, vessels, submarines fabrication and design etc regardless of the fact that the aluminium alloys were being utilized in myriads of sectors owing to its exceptional superior and versatile functional characteristics, the property such as wear-resistant ought to be enhanced in order to further prolong diverse spectrum of applications An aluminium alloy having lower hardness and tensile strength has been incorporated with silicon carbide that drastically strengthens the properties This study involves fabrication of aluminium silicon carbide with muscovite/hydrated aluminium potassium silicate/aluminosilicate in stir casting method to obtain a hybrid metal matrix composite Maintaining a constant amount of aluminium and silicon carbide, muscovite or hydrated aluminium potassium silicate is varied to obtain three distinctive compositions of (Al/SiC/muscovite) composites The mechanical characteristics like tensile-strength, flexural-strength, toughness, hardness, scratch adhesion, percent-porosity and density were studied The dispersion of muscovite and silicon carbide particles were observed by viewing the microstructure photographs obtained using optical microscopy and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) EDAX analysis affirms the presence of reinforcing constituents in Al–Mg–Si–T6 alloy matrix A drum type wear apparatus was utilized to evaluate the percentage of wear-loss in different compositions using different loads and it was found that the wear-loss decreases linearly as the muscovite percentage was increased

This book by a teacher of statistics (as well as a consultant for \"experimenters\") is a comprehensive study of the philosophical background for the statistical design of experiment. It is necessary to have some facility with algebraic notation and manipulation to be able to use the volume intelligently. The problems are presented from the theoretical point of view, without such practical examples as would be helpful for those not acquainted with mathematics. The mathematical justification for the techniques is given. As a somewhat advanced treatment of the design and analysis of experiments, this volume will be interesting and helpful for many who approach statistics theoretically as well as practically. With emphasis on the \"why,\" and with description given broadly, the author relates the subject matter to the general theory of statistics and to the general problem of experimental inference. Abstract: Historically, management theory has ignored the constraints imposed by the biophysical (natural) environment. Building upon resource-based theory, this article attempts to fill this void by proposing a natural-resource-based view of the firm—a theory of competitive advantage based upon the firm's relationship to the natural environment. It is composed of three interconnected strategies: pollution prevention, product stewardship, and sustainable development. Propositions are advanced for each of these strategies regarding key resource requirements and their contributions to sustained competitive advantage.
