TL;DR: Trial work is the essential and sometimes missing link between personnel knowledge and the successful use of an information system introduced in healthcare and should be carefully planned, organised and monitored.
Abstract: The lack of user knowledge about a new healthcare information system leads to project problems. A project's success is usually measured by end user and management satisfaction. The training of healthcare personnel about how to use a new system is not enough. Trial work is the essential and sometimes missing link between personnel knowledge and the successful use of an information system introduced in healthcare. Trial work should be carefully planned, organised and monitored. For best results, the trial use of the new information system has to be defined by management as a must for healthcare employees.

TL;DR: The study focuses on data mining for small student data sets and aims to answer the above research questions by comparing two different data mining tools.
Abstract: Higher education institutions (HEIs) are often curious whether students will be successful or not during their study. Before or during their courses the academic institutions try to estimate the percentage of successful students. But is it possible to predict the success rate of students enrolled in their courses? Are there any specific student characteristics, which can be associated with the student success rate? Is there any relevant student data available to HEIs on the basis of which they could predict the student success rate? The answers to the above research questions can generally be obtained using data mining tools. Unfortunately, data mining algorithms work best with large data sets, while student data, available to HEIs, related to courses are limited and falls into the category of small data sets. Thus, the study focuses on data mining for small student data sets and aims to answer the above research questions by comparing two different data mining tools. The conclusions of this study are very promising and will encourage HEIs to incorporate data mining tools as an important part of their higher education knowledge management systems.

TL;DR: KM is simply a way of working, which recognises the importance of using existing and current knowledge, and once adopted should gradually become invisibly embedded into a company’s strategy and culture.
Abstract: Knowledge management encompasses all aspects of managing a company’s intellectual capital, from filing, to intranets, to team briefings. It “promotes a collaborative and integrative approach to the creation, capture, organisation, access and use of information assets” (European Centre for Customer Strategies). In the past firms have approached KM as a well-defined function, or task to be completed. In fact it is simply a way of working, which recognises the importance of using existing and current knowledge. Once adopted, this method of operating should gradually become invisibly embedded into a company’s strategy and culture.

TL;DR: This study proposes an integrated model that incorporates both perspectives, in which the business value of KM is the dependent variable and effective KM process implementation is an important antecedent, and hypothesize that two contextual factors, top management support and organizational culture, are positively related to business value.
Abstract: Knowledge management (KM) initiatives that create business value are a major focus for many organizations. While academics often couch KM success in terms of process outcomes, some argue that the organizational outcomes perspective of KM success held by many practitioners is clearer, where KM success is tied to its impact on organizational performance. This study proposes an integrated model that incorporates both perspectives, in which the business value of KM is the dependent variable and effective KM process implementation is an important antecedent. We also hypothesize that two contextual factors, top management support and organizational culture, are positively related to business value. Data collected from a U.S. national survey of 268 information technology (IT) executives support the significance of these relationships. Furthermore, this research identifies key KM barriers as well as benefits that influence top management support of KM, KM process implementation, and indirectly business value. Pra...
