Journal ArticleDOI
A strong ferroelectric ferromagnet created by means of spin–lattice coupling
June Hyuk Lee,June Hyuk Lee,Lei Fang,Eftihia Vlahos,Xianglin Ke,Young Woo Jung,Lena F. Kourkoutis,Jong-Woo Kim,Philip Ryan,Tassilo Heeg,M. Roeckerath,Veronica Goian,M. Bernhagen,Reinhard Uecker,P. Chris Hammel,Karin M. Rabe,Stanislav Kamba,Jürgen Schubert,John W. Freeland,David A. Muller,Craig J. Fennie,Peter Schiffer,Venkatraman Gopalan,Ezekiel Johnston-Halperin,Darrell G. Schlom +24 more
TL;DR: This work demonstrates that a single experimental parameter, strain, simultaneously controls multiple order parameters and is a viable alternative tuning parameter to composition for creating multiferroics.
Journal ArticleDOI
Infrared and terahertz studies of polar phonons and magnetodielectric effect in multiferroic Bi Fe O 3 ceramics
Stanislav Kamba,Dmitry Nuzhnyy,Maxim Savinov,Josef Šebek,Jan Petzelt,Jan Prokleška,Raphael Haumont,Jens Kreisel +7 more
TL;DR: The magnetodielectric effect is caused by the combination of magnetoresistance and the Maxwell-Wagner effect, as predicted by Catalan [Appl. Phys. Lett. 88, 102902 as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dielectric, infrared, and Raman response of undoped SrTiO 3 ceramics: Evidence of polar grain boundaries
Jan Petzelt,Tetyana Ostapchuk,Ivan Gregora,I. Rychetský,Susanne Hoffmann-Eifert,A. V. Pronin,Yu. I. Yuzyuk,Boris Gorshunov,Stanislav Kamba,Viktor Bovtun,Jan Pokorný,Maxim Savinov,V. Porokhonskyy,David Rafaja,Přemysl Vaněk,A. Almeida,M. R. Chaves,A. A. Volkov,Martin Dressel,Rainer Waser +19 more
TL;DR: In this article, a theory is suggested which assumes a frozen dipole moment connected with the grain boundaries which induces the polar phase in the grain bulk in correlation with the bulk soft-mode frequency.
Journal ArticleDOI
Exploiting dimensionality and defect mitigation to create tunable microwave dielectrics
Che Hui Lee,Che Hui Lee,Nathan D. Orloff,Nathan D. Orloff,Turan Birol,Ye Zhu,Veronica Goian,Eduard Rocas,Ryan Haislmaier,Eftihia Vlahos,Julia A. Mundy,Lena F. Kourkoutis,Yuefeng Nie,Michael D. Biegalski,Jingshu Zhang,M. Bernhagen,Nicole A. Benedek,Yongsam Kim,Joel D. Brock,Reinhard Uecker,Xiaoxing Xi,Venkatraman Gopalan,Dmitry Nuzhnyy,Stanislav Kamba,David A. Muller,Ichiro Takeuchi,James C. Booth,Craig J. Fennie,Darrell G. Schlom +28 more
TL;DR: In this unique system an increase in the separation between the (SrO)2 planes, which can be achieved by changing n, bolsters the local ferroelectric instability and can be exploited to achieve a figure of merit at room temperature that rivals all known tunable microwave dielectrics.
Journal ArticleDOI
Anomalous broad dielectric relaxation in Bi 1.5 Zn 1.0 Nb 1.5 O 7 pyrochlore
Stanislav Kamba,V. Porokhonskyy,Alexej Pashkin,Viktor Bovtun,Jan Petzelt,Juan C. Nino,Susan Trolier-McKinstry,Michael T. Lanagan,Clive A. Randall +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the complex dielectric response of cubic pyrochlore ceramics was investigated between 100 Hz and 100 THz by a combination of low-frequency capacitance bridges, a high-frequency coaxial technique, time domain transmission THz spectroscopy, and infrared spectrographs.
