TL;DR: In this paper, a transmitter sends an initial frame to a base transceiver station (BTS) and immediately retransmits the same frame without regard to any ACK/NAK transmission from the BTS.
Abstract: A transmitter that may have marginal power availability is enabled to autonomously retransmit previously transmitted frames containing the same data. The transmitter sends an initial frame to a base transceiver station (BTS) and immediately retransmits the same frame without regard to any ACK/NAK transmission from the BTS. The retransmissions are accumulated in the receiver and decoded after a sufficient quantity of the frame is transmitted. After receiving the last retransmitted frame the BTS sends an ACK/NAK to the transmitter that is accepted.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method of controlling access in a telecommunication network in which a communication medium, such as a set of frequencies, time slots, or codes, is shared among a plurality of mobile units is presented.
Abstract: A method of controlling access in a telecommunication network in which a communication medium, such as a set of frequencies, time slots, or codes, is shared among a plurality of mobile units. Transmissions from the mobile units utilize different access modes, such as a direct access mode and a scheduled access mode. Additionally, the transmissions are divided into different communication types, each having an associated priority. A mode access control unit determines for each priority, which access mode to utilize for the associated communication type. Mobile units having data to transmit access the shared communication medium utilizing the access mode determined for the priority of the communication type to which the data belongs.

TL;DR: In this article, a radio network entity in charge of outer loop power control for a communication with a mobile radio is informed about erroneous data units, requested retransmissions, and/or data units transmission attempts associated with the data units sent by the mobile radio to the radio network.
Abstract: A radio network entity in charge of outer loop power control for a communication with a mobile radio is informed about erroneous data units, requested retransmissions, and/or data units transmission attempts associated with the data units sent by the mobile radio to the radio network. Another radio network entity, which sends a transmission power control signal to the mobile radio to control the mobile's transmit power level based on a target value, detects errors in data units received from the mobile radio and requests retransmission. Information associated with the requested retransmission is used to generate a revised target value. The target value may be revised by an outer loop power controller node or by an outer loop power controller entity in the same node as an ARQ entity that generates the information about erroneous data units, requested retransmissions, and/or data units transmission attempts associated with the data units sent by the mobile radio to the radio network.

TL;DR: In this article, a single data packet is encapsulated into a single link layer packet data unit and bits within the code block are selected to fit into or otherwise match the radio resource capacity.
Abstract: A technique is provided for processing data in a packet-based communications environment. A single data packet is encapsulated into a single link layer packet data unit. The link layer unit is encoded to form at least one code block. After the currently available radio resource capacity during a fixed duration transmission interval has been determined, bits within the code block are selected to fit into or otherwise match the radio resource capacity. Thereafter, the selected bits are transmitted via a physical layer. In some variations, unsolicited redundant sets of bits are transmitted thereafter to facilitate successful receipt.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method and an arrangement for avoiding unnecessary retransmissions in a packet-based radio-communication network by exchanging transmission state information between retransmission functionality entities (12, 21) located at respective protocol layers in different network nodes is presented.
Abstract: A method and an arrangement for avoiding unnecessary retransmissions in a packet-based radio-communication network by exchanging transmission state information between retransmission functionality entities (12, 21) located at respective protocol layers in different network nodes (1, 2), and performing inter-layer coordination of retransmissions between the network nodes (1, 2) based on the exchanged transmission state information to provide a more efficient overall scheme for retransmissions.

TL;DR: In this article, a mechanism for improved data transmission between units in a telecommunication network, where at least one of the units utilizes multiple transport channels for transmitting data, is proposed, where acknowledgeable data transmission is started over a first transport channel if no other on-going acknowledgeability data transmission on a second transport channel starts or ends within a pre-defined or assigned transmission period for the first channel.
Abstract: A mechanism for improved data transmission between units in a telecommunication network, where at least one of the units utilizes multiple transport channels for transmitting data. An acknowledgeable data transmission is started over a first transport channel if no other on-going acknowledgeable data transmission on a second transport channel starts or ends within a pre-defined or assigned transmission period for the first channel. Thereby, unique identification of acknowledgements messages is enabled.

Abstract: A system and a method for wireless linking in a cellular communication system are disclosed such that a mobile station is maintained in simultaneous communication with at least a first node and a second node for access to the cellular communication system. Information going to and from the first node is not identical to the information going to and from the second node. In one embodiment the second node, or secondary access point is a relay node forwarding received information to and from the first node, or primary access point. In another embodiment the second node is another mobile station performing a direct mobile-to-mobile communication (MS-to-MS). In still an embodiment a first wireless link to the first node is for control information only. In still a further embodiment a second wireless link to the second node is only for communication of information from the mobile station or only for communication of information to the mobile station.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose to base the calculation of the initial preamble power value on the last performed RACH transmission instead of calculating the initial power from the information that is broadcasted in the system information.
Abstract: The present invention aims to solve the problem that the preamble ramping process on a random access channel (RACH) of a 3rd generation telecommunication network can take a considerable time and, as a consequence, cause significant delays in RRC signalling and user data transmission on RACH. The present invention suggests to base the calculation of the initial preamble power value on the last performed RACH transmission instead of calculating the initial preamble power from the information that is broadcasted in the system information. This results in fewer preamble rampings until the preamble is detected in the Node-B.

TL;DR: The paper gives an overview of the design targets, the basic principles, and how they are integrated into WCDMA, and simulation results are used to exemplify the performance gains brought by introducing these enhancements into W CDMA.
Abstract: To meet future demands for improved uplink packet data performance, enhancements to the WCDMA uplink are part of Re16 of the specifications, with completion date at the end of 2004. The main targets are improved performance for packet data services in terms of reduced delays, improved availability of high data rates, and improved capacity. The paper gives an overview of the design targets, the basic principles, and how they are integrated into WCDMA. Simulation results are used to exemplify the performance gains brought by introducing these enhancements into WCDMA.
