Journal ArticleDOI

ISOLTRAP: An on-line Penning trap for mass spectrometry on short-lived nuclides

TL;DR: ISOLTRAP as discussed by the authors is a Penning trap mass spectrometer for high-precision mass measurements on short-lived nuclides installed at the on-line isotope separator ISOLDE at CERN.
Journal ArticleDOI

A cylindrical Penning trap for capture, mass selective cooling, and bunching of radioactive ion beams

TL;DR: In this paper, a penning trap ion accumulator, cooler, and buncher for low-energy ion beams has been developed for the ISOLTRAP mass spectrometer at ISOLDE/CERN.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Ramsey method in high-precision mass spectrometry with Penning traps: Experimental results

TL;DR: In this paper, a new excitation scheme, Ramsey's method of time-separated oscillatory fields, has been successfully tested with the ISOLTRAP mass spectrometer at ISOLDE/CERN for mass measurements on stable as well as short-lived nuclides.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ramsey method of separated oscillatory fields for high-precision penning trap mass spectrometry.

TL;DR: It is shown that the Ramsey method applied to Penning trap mass measurements yields a statistical uncertainty similar to that obtained by the conventional technique but 10 times faster, which is a new powerful tool for high-precision mass measurements.
