Distension capacity of the carotid artery and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring: Effects of age and hypertension
TL;DR: It is suggested for the first time that, in humans, hypertension may act on the arterial wall not only through the amplitude of peak systolic and end-diastolic blood pressure but also through several other mechanical factors involving the level of pulse pressure and heart rate and also blood pressure variability.
Journal ArticleDOI
Disruption of the elastin gene in adult Williams syndrome is accompanied by a paradoxical reduction in arterial stiffness.
Patrick Lacolley,Pierre Boutouyrie,Marina A. Glukhova,Jean-Marie Daniel Lamazière,Pierre-François Plouin,Patrick Bruneval,Phat Vuong,Pierre Corvol,Stéphane Laurent +8 more
TL;DR: In Williams syndrome patients, the carotid artery wall was abnormally distensible and thick, and major ultrastructural abnormalities of elastic fibres were observed in association with smooth muscle cell de-differentiation, indicating that the haplo-insufficiency of the elastin gene in WS patients leads to abnormal elastic fibre assembly within the media.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association of central and peripheral pulse pressure with intermediate cardiovascular phenoytpes
Ulf Neisius,Grzegorz Bilo,Chiara Taurino,John D. McClure,M. Schneider,Kalina Kawecka-Jaszcz,Katarzyna Stolarz-Skrzypek,Łukasz Klima,Jan A. Staessen,Tatiana Kuznetsova,Josep Redon,Fernando Martinez,Enrico Agabiti Rosei,Maria Lorenza Muiesan,Olle Melander,Faiez Zannad,Patrick Rossignol,Stéphane Laurent,Cédric Collin,Laura Lonati,Alberto Zanchetti,Anna F. Dominiczak,Christian Delles +22 more
TL;DR: In a middle-aged cohort with high prevalence of hypertension cPP is more closely correlated with cardiovascular phenotypes than pPP, however, cPP does not provide additional information beyond pPP when adjusted for relevant cofactors.
Journal ArticleDOI
SPARTE Study: Normalization of Arterial Stiffness and Cardiovascular Events in Patients With Hypertension at Medium to Very High Risk.
Stéphane Laurent,Gilles Chatellier,Gilles Chatellier,Michel Azizi,David Calvet,Gabriel Choukroun,Nicolas Danchin,Pascal Delsart,Xavier Girerd,Philippe Gosse,Hakim Khettab,Gérard M. London,Jean-Jacques Mourad,Bruno Pannier,Helena Pereira,Dominique Stephan,Paul Valensi,Pedro P. Cunha,Krzysztof Narkiewicz,Rosa-Maria Bruno,Rosa-Maria Bruno,Pierre Boutouyrie,Pierre Boutouyrie,Sparte Investigators +23 more
TL;DR: The SPARTE study as discussed by the authors showed that a carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (PWV) measured every 6 months can significantly reduce office and ambulatory systolic blood pressure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mechanical and Structural Characteristics of Carotid Plaques by Combined Analysis With Echotracking System and MR Imaging
Hélène Beaussier,Olivier Naggara,Olivier Naggara,David Calvet,Robinson Joannides,Evelyne Guegan-Massardier,Emmanuel Gerardin,Michelle Iacob,Brigitte Laloux,Brigitte Laloux,Erwan Bozec,Erwan Bozec,Jeremy Bellien,Emmanuel Touzé,Emmanuel Touzé,Ingrid Masson,Ingrid Masson,Christian Thuillez,Catherine Oppenheim,Catherine Oppenheim,Pierre Boutouyrie,Pierre Boutouyrie,Stéphane Laurent,Stéphane Laurent +23 more
TL;DR: Findings indicate that the longitudinal mechanics of "complex" plaques follows a specific pattern of reduced strain and suggest that reduced strain, associated with an outer remodeling, may be a feature of high-risk plaques.
