Damage to the coral reef ecosystem in the Damas Coast waters is caused by the behavior of using fishing gear that is not environmentally friendly. Based on the problem, there is a solution to lay 25 cube-shaped artificial reefs in 2017. The condition of artificial reefs that have been placed in the waters of Damas Beach within 2.5 years needs to be monitored to determine the physical characteristics of artificial reefs. Observation of physical characteristics is done visually by using the underwater photo transect method. The observation found 22 artificial reefs (AR) including physical characteristics; 15 AR is Buried by sediment; 1 AR covered by a net; 3 AR in a Tilted position and 4 AR in good condition. Three AR that was not found is considered to have disappeared or the entire structure has been buried by sediment.

Physical Characteristics of Artificial Reef Post Deployed on 2017 in Trenggalek Damas Beach

Coral reef degradation in Indonesia is increasingly alarming. For this reason, efforts are needed to rehabilitate coral reef ecosystems. In this study, we explained the effect of coral transplantation on the structure of coral fish communities in the waters of Harapan Island, precisely on Rosa and Pamegaran Island, Seribu Archipelago National Park. The study of the reef fish community structure was carried out for 8 weeks from February 2019 to April 2019. This study was conducted by scuba diving to dive directly into the coral transplant sites. During the study period, a total of 35 species (14 families) were observed. There is an increase in fish abundance per 50m² which is significant over time for 8 weeks of observation (α 0.05). Significant differences in abundance of reef fish also occurred between the two islands (α 0.05), indicating that differences in the depth of the location of coral transplants can also affect the abundance of reef fish. It can be concluded that coral transplantation efforts succeeded in increasing the abundance of individual reef fish on both coral transplantation islands.

The effect of coral transplantation on the community structure of reef fish on Harapan Island, Seribu Archipelago, Jakarta

Study on coral recruitment in artiﬁcial reefs was carried out in Hari Island, Southeast Sulawesi. Data collection was conducted by calculating the number of genus colony and measuring coral size using visual census method equipped with scuba diving and an underwater camera. The construction of artiﬁcial reefs would vertically expand the proﬁle of the survival of juvenile coral recruitment, where 95 new colonies of the recruitment had successfully been observed. Moreover, there were 10 genus of stony coral (Scleractinia) managed to be identiﬁed with the abundance proportion of Pocillopora, Acropora, Fungis, Leptoseris, Cynarina, Seriotopora, Acanthastrea, Favites, Montipora, Oxypora. The entire coral recruitment was dominated by genus Pocillopora reaching 80.0%. The coral recruitment in artiﬁcial reefs showed that there was potential coral recovery in the island.
