TL;DR: For the exponent ψ which describes a critical anomaly of the nonlinear dielectric effect (NDE) and the electro-optic Kerr effect (EKE) in critical solutions, theoretical models predict: ψ NDE = ψ EKE =ψ theor =γ-2β as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: For the exponent ψ which describes a critical anomaly of the nonlinear dielectric effect (NDE) and the electro-optic Kerr effect (EKE) in critical solutions, theoretical models predict: ψ NDE =ψ EKE =ψ theor =γ-2β. An experiment gave ψ NDE (≃0.37)<ψ theor (≃0.59)<ψ EKE (≃0.8). For all other experimental results, however, the agreement with the theory is good. In this paper it is shown that also both of the above relations may be valid. This result is based on the assumption that the NDE and the EKE exhibit a mixture of both a nonclassical and a classical type of behavior of critical fluctuations

TL;DR: In this article, nonlinear dielectric effect (NDE) measurements in the isotropic phase close to TC for HCPB, 5CB, and 8CB were presented.
Abstract: New results are presented of nonlinear dielectric effect (NDE) measurements in the isotropic phase close to TC for HCPB, 5CB, and 8CB. With a measurement field frequency of about 6 MHz deviations from the Landau-de Gennes model were observed. This is interpreted as due to the influence of the orientation mechanism of individual molecules which becomes a dominating influence in the range of sufficiently high frequencies.© (1993) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering.
