TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used a Jenike shear tester to characterize the flow parameters of raw coal fines, since such fines produced during handling of coal in thermal power stations is expected to contribute towards recurring flow problems.
Abstract: Based on the fact that the flow behaviour of any bulk solid of mixed particle sizes depends on the properties of its fines content, the present work was taken up to characterize the flow parameters of raw coal fines, since such fines produced during handling of coal in thermal power stations is expected to contribute towards recurring flow problems. For the analysis of flow of any bulk solid in wet conditions, information about its bulk density, major consolidation pressure, intergranular friction, cohesivity and unconfined yield strength are of paramount importance. In view of the significant influence of the moisture and clay present in the coal on its flowability, the flow parameters were characterized with respect to these two variables using a Jenike shear tester.

TL;DR: In this paper, the Hosokawa micron cohetter was used to measure the tensile strength of raw coal fines in the presence of clay and moisture, and the results showed that the void fraction of the sample mold and its tensile strengths were related by a semi-logarithmic function.
Abstract: As it was noticed from the literature that the estimation of tensile strength of a cohesive solid by extrapolation of its yield locus was facing some difficulties, the characteristics of the parameter, for raw coal fines in the presence of clay and moisture, were analysed by measuring the tensile strength of the samples directly, using the Hosokawa micron cohetester. From the results it was found that the void fraction of the sample mould and its tensile strength were related by a semi-logarithmic function. These values of the parameter were compared with the extrapolated values from shear tests using a Jenike shear tester.
