TL;DR: In this article, a fuzzy logic, rule based control strategy is proposed for a parallel, hybrid electric vehicle, which optimizes engine operational efficiency while maintaining battery state of charge, and improves drivability and performance.
Abstract: In this paper a fuzzy logic, rule based control strategy is proposed for a parallel, hybrid electric vehicle. The energy management optimizes engine operational efficiency while maintaining battery state of charge. Fuzzy logic shifting strategy improves the drivability and performance and avoids undesirable frequent shifting. Simulation has been conducted in a forward-looking model to implement the design. The improvements are presented with simulation results as well as the comparison with those performed using default controller.

TL;DR: The potential for educational programs based on the transdisciplinary model is discussed in order to address and overcome difficulties and a closer relationship with industry in developing educational programs is suggested.
Abstract: Educational programs face many difficulties because of the rapid change of technology in today's environment. The potential for educational programs based on the transdisciplinary model is discussed in order to address and overcome these difficulties. A closer relationship with industry in developing educational programs is suggested. Finally, a new transdisciplinary master of engineering program, developed jointly by industry and the Institute for Design and Advanced Technology at Texas Tech University, is described.

TL;DR: In this paper, a mathematical model of the PEM fuel cell and its use to develop the auxiliary systems necessary to apply the fuel cell in an HEV is described. But, the simulation program Matlab and Simulink are used the model development.
Abstract: Proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells have the possibility of becoming the primary power source of hybrid electric vehicles. However, a fuel cell system is large, complex and expensive. Designing and building new prototypes is difficult and expensive. The alternative is to examine different systems through simulations. This paper describes a mathematical model of the fuel cell and its use to develop the auxiliary systems necessary to apply the fuel cell in an HEV. The popular simulation program Matlab and Simulink are used the model development.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discuss the impact that the 1990 amendments to the Clean Air Act and the 1992 Comprehensive National Energy Policy Act could have on the use of alternative fuels and a summary of Texas' state law, considered to be representative of state legislation on alternative fuels.
Abstract: This book contains basic information on the various alternative fuels and objective data on the costs of converting, fueling, and operating alternatively-fueled vehicles. Fuel cost, performance, reliability, and availability are addressed. The book also discusses the impact that the 1990 amendments to the Clean Air Act and the 1992 Comprehensive National Energy Policy Act could have on the use of alternative fuels. A summary of Texas' state law, considered to be representative of state legislation on alternative fuels, is also included. Eight chapters cover: Introduction; Review of Engine Technology; Characteristics of Alternative Fuels; Conversion of Spark Ignition Engines; Conversion of Compression Ignition Engines; Refueling Facilities; Legislation and Policies; Cost Considerations; Glossary.

TL;DR: This paper classifies and extensively overviews the state-of-the-art control strategies for HEVs, establishing a basis for comparing available methods and helping devoted researchers choose the right track.
Abstract: As hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) are gaining more popularity in the market, the rule of the energy management system in the hybrid drivetrain is escalating. This paper classifies and extensively overviews the state-of-the-art control strategies for HEVs. The pros and cons of each approach are discussed. From different perspectives, real-time solutions are qualitatively compared. Finally, a couple of important issues that should be addressed in future development of control strategies are suggested. The benefits of this paper are the following: (1) laying down a foundation for future improvements, (2) establishing a basis for comparing available methods, and (3) helping devoted researchers choose the right track, while avoiding doing that which has already been done.

TL;DR: In this paper, the utilization of carbon dioxide and formic acid for hydrogen storing is discussed, and the problem of storing appropriate amounts of hydrogen is addressed in the context of a hydrogen economy.
Abstract: In search for future energy supplies the application of hydrogen as an energy carrier is seen as a prospective issue. However, the implementation of a hydrogen economy is suffering from several unsolved problems. Particularly challenging is the storage of appropriate amounts of hydrogen. In this context the utilization of carbon dioxide–formic acid for hydrogen storing is discussed.
