A wireless telecommunication system comprises base stations for communicating with terminal devices. One or more base stations support a power boost operating mode in which a base station's available transmission power is concentrated in a subset of its available transmission resources to provide enhanced transmission powers as compared to transmission powers on these transmission resources when the base station is not operating in the power boost mode. A base station establishes an extent to which one or more base stations in the wireless telecommunications system support the power boost operating mode conveys an indication of this to a terminal device. The terminal device receives the indication and uses the corresponding information to control its acquisition of a base station of the wireless telecommunication system, for example by taking account of which base stations support power boosting and/or when power boosting is supported during a cell attach procedure.

Telecommunications apparatus and methods

In mobile edge computing (MEC), mobile devices limited to computation and memory resources offload compute-intensive tasks to nearby edge servers. User movement causes frequent handovers in 5G urban networks. The resultant delays in task execution due to unknown user position and base station lead to increased energy consumption and resource wastage. The current MEC offloading solutions separate computation offloading from user mobility. For task offloading, techniques that predict the user’s future location do not consider user direction. We propose a framework termed COME-UP Computation Offloading in mobile edge computing with Long-short term memory (LSTM) based user direction prediction. The nature of the mobility data is nonlinear and leads to a time series prediction problem. The LSTM considers the previous mobility features, such as location, velocity, and direction, as input to a feed-forward mechanism to train the learning model and predict the next location. The proposed architecture also uses a fitness function to calculate priority weights for selecting an optimum edge server for task offloading based on latency, energy, and server load. The simulation results show that the latency and energy consumption of COME-UP are lower than the baseline techniques, while the edge server utilization is enhanced.

RSCP calculation sections 106a-160c calculate RSCP per path, using average signal powers. Multipliers 107a-107c multiply symbol power deviations per path and per slot by the RSCP per path, thereby weighting the deviations per path and per slot. A combining section 108 calculates a total RSCP by adding the RSCP values per path. Another combining section 109 calculates symbol power deviations per slot by adding the weighted symbol power deviations per path. An ISCP calculation section 110 calculates symbol power variance values per slot, using the symbol power deviations per slot. An averaging section 111 calculates a total ISCP by averaging the symbol power variance values across multiple slots. An SIR calculation section 112 calculates SIR from the total RSCP and the total ISCP. SIR measurement before RAKE combining can be performed with as high accuracy as SIR measurement after RAKE combining.

To suitably transmit feedback information for rank adaptation and precoding in uplink MIMO transmission to a user apparatus as feedback, a base station apparatus (200) is characterized by having a precoding weight/rank number selecting section (232) that determines rank information associated with the number of layers of spatial multiplexing in uplink, while determining a control amount of a transmission phase and/or transmission amplitude used in weighting for transmission antennas of a user apparatus, and transmission/reception sections (206a) (206b) that transmit the rank information determined in the precoding weight/rank number selecting section (232) to a mobile station (100) using an RRC signal, while transmitting the control amount to the mobile station (100) using a control channel signal.

Disclosed are a terminal, a base station, a response method, and a retransmission control method, which are capable of switching the response signal transmission method while preventing throughput degradation and without increasing the number of signaling bits. A bundling determination unit (132) of a terminal (100) determines parameters that denote the allocated resource quantities that are allocated thereto from a base station (200), or in other words, a downstream band that is included in a bundling group and a downstream band that is not included in the bundling group, from among a plurality of downstream bands on the basis of base station transmission parameters. Specifically, a degree of resource share (Xn) that is allocated from each respective downstream band to the terminal (100) is employed in the base station transmission parameters.

Terminal, base station, response method, and retransmission control method

In this study, we investigate reference signal (RS) transmission schemes that aim to efficiently support coordinated multi-point (CoMP) transmission by providing improved channel estimation accuracy so that transmission parameters can be appropriately chosen on a cellular network. First, we investigate typical scenarios for transmission parameter selection with the widely used CoMP transmission and precoding schemes aligned with those considered for Long Term Evolution (LTE)-Advanced systems. Second, we investigate an RS transmission scheme that can provide accurate channel estimation even with severe inter-cell interference. Finally, we verify the performance benefit of the investigated scheme by a multi-cell link level evaluation. The results obtained indicate: 1) the investigated scheme improves block error rate performance compared to conventional schemes for fixed modulation and coding schemes (MCSs) allocation with a better precoding control accuracy on the LTE-Advanced system downlink and 2) the investigated scheme provides a throughput performance gain compared to conventional schemes for adaptive MCS allocation and coordinated beamforming.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately determine synchronization with accuracy, without bringing about synchronizing by mistake, even when there are multiple fingers allocated to error and noise of the synchronous timing in a mobile communication system adopting a DS-CDMA method. SOLUTION: Number-of-error bit calculators 107-1 to 107-N calculate the numbers of the error bits of received pilot symbols at the respective fingers. A minimum number-of-error bit selector 108 selects the minimum number of the error bits of the number of the error bits calculated from the respective fingers. A number-of-error bit deciding unit 110 compares the minimum number of the error bits with the allowed number of the bits. A forward/reverse protection unit 111 conducts forward/reverse protection the decided result, and prevents the wrong decision due to noise. A synchronization decision determining unit 112 receives information as to whether the forward and reverse protection from the unit 111 is cleared, and outputs a synchronization decision result.
