Spatially resolved analysis of short-range structure perturbations in a plastically bent molecular crystal
Manas K. Panda,Soumyajit Ghosh,Nobuhiro Yasuda,Taro Moriwaki,Goutam Dev Mukherjee,C. Malla Reddy,Panče Naumov +6 more
TL;DR: The morphostructural consequences of plastic deformation in crystals of hexachlorobenzene that can be bent mechanically at multiple locations to 360° with retention of macroscopic integrity are described.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mechanically interlocked architecture aids an ultra-stiff and ultra-hard elastically bendable cocrystal.
Somnath Dey,Susobhan Das,Surojit Bhunia,Rituparno Chowdhury,Amit Mondal,Biswajit Bhattacharya,Ramesh Devarapalli,Nobuhiro Yasuda,Taro Moriwaki,Kapil Mandal,Goutam Dev Mukherjee,C. Malla Reddy +11 more
TL;DR: An organic elastically bendable co-crystal with stiffness comparable to low-density metals, hardness similar to stainless steel and the molecular mechanism which lead to these mechanical properties are revealed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Probing Structural Perturbation in a Bent Molecular Crystal with Synchrotron Infrared Microspectroscopy and Periodic Density Functional Theory Calculations.
TL;DR: It is demonstrated here that spatially resolved microfocus infrared spectroscopy using synchrotron radiation can be applied in conjunction with periodic density functional theory calculations to predict spectral changes or to extract information on structural changes that occur as a consequence of bending.
Journal ArticleDOI
Flexibility in a Molecular Crystal Accomplished by Structural Modulation of Carbohydrate Epimers
Manas K. Panda,Manas K. Panda,Kumar Bhaskar Pal,Gijo Raj,Rajesh Jana,Taro Moriwaki,Goutam Dev Mukherjee,Balaram Mukhopadhyay,Panče Naumov +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that hydrogen bonding of water molecules is the key element for sliding over the slip planes in the crystal and accounts for the plastic bending of organic crystals.
Journal ArticleDOI
Thermochemiluminescent peroxide crystals
Stefan Schramm,Durga Prasad Karothu,Nathan M. Lui,Patrick Commins,Ejaz Ahmed,Luca Catalano,Liang Li,James Weston,Taro Moriwaki,Kyril M. Solntsev,Kyril M. Solntsev,Panče Naumov,Panče Naumov +12 more
TL;DR: Direct transduction of heat into light by thermochemiluminescence in a centimeter-size lophine hydroperoxide crystal is demonstrated.
