Journal ArticleDOI
Local recurrence after hepatic radiofrequency coagulation: multivariate meta-analysis and review of contributing factors.
TL;DR: Radiofrequency coagulation by laparoscopy or laparotomy results in superior local control, independent of tumor size, and the short-term benefits of less invasiveness for the percutaneous route do not outweigh the longer-term higher risk of local recurrence.
Journal Article
Effective migration of antigen-pulsed dendritic cells to lymph nodes in melanoma patients is determined by their maturation state
I. Jolanda M. de Vries,Daniëlle J. E. B. Krooshoop,Nicole M. Scharenborg,W. Joost Lesterhuis,J. Heleen S. Diepstra,Goos N.P. van Muijen,S. P. Strijk,Theo J.M. Ruers,Otto C. Boerman,Wim J.G. Oyen,Gosse J. Adema,Cornelis J. A. Punt,Carl G. Figdor +12 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that in vitro-generated mature, but not immature dendritic cells, efficiently migrate into the T-cell areas of lymph nodes of melanoma patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Local Treatment of Unresectable Colorectal Liver Metastases: Results of a Randomized Phase II Trial
Theo J.M. Ruers,Frits van Coevorden,Cornelis J. A. Punt,Jean-Pierre E. N. Pierie,Inne H. M. Borel-Rinkes,Jonathan A. Ledermann,Graeme J. Poston,Wolf O. Bechstein,M.A. Lentz,Murielle Mauer,Gunnar Folprecht,Eric Van Cutsem,Michel Ducreux,Bernard Nordlinger +13 more
TL;DR: This phase II trial is the first randomized study demonstrating that aggressive local treatment can prolong OS in patients with unresectable colorectal liver metastases.
Journal ArticleDOI
In Situ Tumor Ablation Creates an Antigen Source for the Generation of Antitumor Immunity
Martijn H. den Brok,Roger P.M. Sutmuller,Robbert van der Voort,Erik Bennink,Carl G. Figdor,Theo J.M. Ruers,Gosse J. Adema +6 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that following RFA, a weak but detectable immune response develops, directed against OVA, but also against a broader range of B16 antigens, and this strongly enhanced antitumor immunity, resulting in long-lasting tumor protection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Value of Positron Emission Tomography With [F-18]Fluorodeoxyglucose in Patients With Colorectal Liver Metastases: A Prospective Study
Theo J.M. Ruers,B.S. Langenhoff,N. Neeleman,Gerrit J. Jager,S. P. Strijk,Th. Wobbes,F.H.M. Corstens,Wim J.G. Oyen +7 more
TL;DR: FDG-PET as a complementary staging method improves the therapeutic management of patients with colorectal liver metastases, especially by detecting unsuspected extrahepatic disease.
