Journal ArticleDOI

Nanocrystalline hydroxyapatite and calcium sulphate as biodegradable composite carrier material for local delivery of antibiotics in bone infections.

TL;DR: PerOssal exhibits excellent properties regarding resorption, biocompatibility, and antibiotic release and calcium sulphate showed cytotoxic effects in two out of four tests.
Journal ArticleDOI

NDM-2 carbapenemase in Acinetobacter baumannii from Egypt

TL;DR: A variant of NDM-1 that had a C to G substitution at position 82 resulting in an amino acid substitution of proline to alanine at position 28 was revealed, which further underlines the spread of N DM carbapenemases in A. baumannii and theSpread of the corresponding gene in the Middle East.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of subinhibitory concentrations of antibiotics on alpha-toxin (hla) gene expression of methicillin-sensitive and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus isolates.

TL;DR: The results indicate that the novel gene fusion technique is a useful tool for studying the modulation of virulence gene expression by antibiotics, and suggest that the effects of certain antibiotics on virulence properties may be relevant for the management of S. aureus infections.
Journal ArticleDOI

Molecular characterization of blaNDM-1 in an Acinetobacter baumannii strain isolated in Germany in 2007

TL;DR: The variability of the genetic environment of bla(NDM-1) likely facilitates the rapid dissemination of this gene within many Gram-negative bacterial species.
Journal ArticleDOI

Prevalence and Clinical Significance of Staphylococcus aureus Small-Colony Variants in Cystic Fibrosis Lung Disease

TL;DR: The independent risk factors determined here point to the impact of S. aureus SCVs on chronic and persistent infections in advanced CF lung disease.
