Journal ArticleDOI
The 3a protein of severe acute respiratory syndrome-associated coronavirus induces apoptosis in Vero E6 cells
Patrick Tik Wan Law,Chi Hang Wong,Thomas Chi Chuen Au,Chi Pang Chuck,Siu Kai Kong,Paul K.S. Chan,Ka Fai To,Anthony W.I. Lo,Judy Yuet-Wa Chan,Yick Keung Suen,Edwin Kin Wai Chan,Kwok-Pui Fung,Mary M.Y. Waye,Joseph J.Y. Sung,Y.M. Dennis Lo,Stephen Kwok-Wing Tsui +15 more
TL;DR: It is shown that overexpression of a single SARS-CoV protein can induce apoptosis in vitro, and in vitro experiments of chromatin condensation and DNA fragmentation suggested that the 3a protein may trigger apoptosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Epidemiological and Virological Characteristics of 2 Subgroups of Hepatitis B Virus Genotype C
Henry Lik-Yuen Chan,Stephen Kwok-Wing Tsui,Chi-Hang Tse,Eddie Y. T. Ng,Thomas Chi Chuen Au,Lilly Yuen,Angeline Bartholomeusz,Kwong-Sak Leung,Kin-Hong Lee,Stephen Locarnini,Joseph J.Y. Sung +10 more
TL;DR: HBV genotypes C can be differentiated into 2 subgroups--namely, genotype Ce and genotype Cs--that have different epidemiological distributions and virological characteristics.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clinical Significance of Cytokeratin 20-Positive Circulating Tumor Cells Detected by a Refined Immunomagnetic Enrichment Assay in Colorectal Cancer Patients
Sze Chuen Cesar Wong,Charles Ming Lok Chan,Brigette B.Y. Ma,Edwin P. Hui,Simon S.M. Ng,Paul B.S. Lai,Moon Tong Cheung,E. S.F. Lo,Amanda Kit Ching Chan,Money Yan Yee Lam,Thomas Chi Chuen Au,Anthony T.C. Chan +11 more
TL;DR: In this article, a methodology for using a gastrointestinal-specific anti-cytokeratin (CK) 20 antibody to detect CTCs in colorectal cancer patients was developed.
Journal ArticleDOI
STAT3 activation contributes directly to Epstein‐Barr virus–mediated invasiveness of nasopharyngeal cancer cells in vitro
Vivian Wai Yan Lui,Elaine Yue Ling Wong,Yeung Ho,Bo Hong,Sze Chuen Cesar Wong,Qian Tao,Gigi Ching Gee Choi,Thomas Chi Chuen Au,Kakiu Ho,Daisy Mei Sze Yau,Brigette B.Y. Ma,Edwin P. Hui,Andrew Sai Kit Chan,Chi Man Tsang,Sai Wah Tsao,Jennifer R. Grandis,Anthony T.C. Chan +16 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that EBV‐induced STAT3 activation is responsible for NPC cell proliferation and invasion and STAT3 targeting may be beneficial in treating aggressive NPC.
Journal ArticleDOI
Advanced proteomic technologies for cancer biomarker discovery
Sze Chuen Cesar Wong,Charles Ming Lok Chan,Brigette B.Y. Ma,Money Yan Yee Lam,Gigi Ching Gee Choi,Thomas Chi Chuen Au,Andrew Sai Kit Chan,Anthony T.C. Chan +7 more
TL;DR: A summary will be presented that discusses current hurdles faced by proteomic researchers, such as the wide dynamic range of protein abundance, standardization of protocols and validation of cancer biomarkers, and a 5-year view of potential solutions to such problems will be provided.
