TL;DR: In this paper, a fiberglass binder which contains a polycarboxy polymer and a polyol, with a pH of the binder being no greater than 3.5, is presented.
Abstract: Provided is a fiberglass binder which contains a polycarboxy polymer and a polyol, with a pH of the binder being no greater than 3.5. It is further preferred that the polycarboxy polymer has a molecular weight of less than 10,000, and more preferably about 5000 or less. The binder also preferably includes a catalyst which is an alkali metal salt of a phosphorus polyol is preferably triethanolamine. The binder also preferably includes a catalyst which is an alkali metal salt of a phosphorus-containing organic acid. The resultant binder, particularly when used in preparing fiberglass products, provides minimal processing difficulties and a product with excellent recovery and rigidity.

TL;DR: In this article, a fiberglass binder comprising a polycarboxy polymer and a polyol was proposed, and the ratio of equivalents of hydroxyl groups to carboxy groups was obtained in the range from about 0.6/1 to 0.8/1.
Abstract: Provided is a novel fiberglass binder comprising a polycarboxy polymer and a polyol. The amount of polycarboxy polymer and polyol contained in the binder is such that the ratio of equivalents of hydroxyl groups to carboxy groups is preferably in the range from from about 0.6/1 to 0.8/1. It is further preferred that the molecular weight of the polycarboxy polymer is less than 10,000, and more preferably less than 5000.

TL;DR: In this paper, a process for preparing binder-coated fiberglass products employs as a binder aqueous polymer systems comprising a nitrogenous formaldehyde resin such as a urea-extended alkaline phenol/formaldehyde resole together with an acidic polyacrylate which cocure to form a thermoset polymer while synergistically reducing ammonia emissions.
Abstract: A process for preparing binder-coated fiberglass products employs as a binder aqueous polymer systems comprising a nitrogenous formaldehyde resin such as a urea-extended alkaline phenol/formaldehyde resole together with an acidic polyacrylate which cocure to form a thermoset polymer while synergistically reducing ammonia emissions which normally occur during cure of the nitrogenous formaldehyde resin. The polymer system may be used in applications other than fiberglass where reduced emissions are desired.

TL;DR: A formaldehyde-free aqueous binder composition comprises a binder component (A) obtainable by reacting at least one alkanolamine with at least 1 carboxylic anhydride and, optionally, treating the reaction product with a base; and B) which comprises at least a carbohydrate as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: A formaldehyde-free aqueous binder composition comprises a binder component (A) obtainable by reacting at least one alkanolamine with at least one carboxylic anhydride and, optionally, treating the reaction product with a base; and a binder component (B) which comprises at least one carbohydrate. The binder composition is particularly useful for bonding mineral fiber products.

TL;DR: In this article, a polycarboxy binder composition that contains a dextrin as a co-binder is provided, and a prebinder composition is formed by admixing the poly carboxy polymer, the cross-linking agent, and optionally, the catalyst, in a mixing device.
Abstract: A polycarboxy binder composition that contains a dextrin as a co-binder is provided. The dextrin co-binder may be a dextrin, a modified dextrin, a maltodextrin, or combinations thereof. The dextrin may be chemically modified. A pre-binder composition is formed that contains a polycarboxy polymer, a crosslinking agent, and optionally a catalyst. The polycarboxy polymer may be a homopolymer or copolymer prepared from unsaturated carboxylic acids and may be modified to contain one or more vinyl compounds. The crosslinking agent may be a polyol that contains at least two hydroxyl groups. The pre-binder composition may be formed by admixing the polycarboxy polymer, the crosslinking agent, and optionally, the catalyst, in a mixing device. Dextrin may be added to the pre-binder composition in an amount of from 10-75% of the total binder composition. The dextrin binder composition may have a ratio of from approximately 90:10 to 25:75 pre-binder:dextrin co-binder.

TL;DR: In this article, an aqueous binder composition is provided that includes a carbohydrate and a crosslinking agent, which is used in the formation of insulation materials and nonwoven chopped strand mats.
Abstract: An aqueous binder composition is provided that includes a carbohydrate and a crosslinking agent. In exemplary embodiments, the carbohydrate-based binder composition may also include a catalyst, a coupling agent, a process aid, a crosslinking density enhancer, an extender, a moisture resistant agent, a dedusting oil, a colorant, a corrosion inhibitor, a surfactant, a pH adjuster, and combinations thereof. The carbohydrate may be natural in origin and derived from renewable resources. Additionally, the carbohydrate polymer may have a dextrose equivalent (DE) number from 2 to 20. In at least one exemplary embodiment, the carbohydrate is a water-soluble polysaccharide such as dextrin or maltodextrin and the crosslinking agent is citric acid. Advantageously, the carbohydrates have a low viscosity and cure at moderate temperatures. The environmentally friendly, formaldehyde-free binder may be used in the formation of insulation materials and non-woven chopped strand mats. A method of making fibrous insulation products is also provided.
