LogP: towards a realistic model of parallel computation
David E. Culler,Richard M. Karp,David A. Patterson,Abhijit Sahay,Klaus Erik Schauser,Eunice E. Santos,Ramesh Subramonian,Thorsten von Eicken +7 more
TL;DR: A new parallel machine model, called LogP, is offered that reflects the critical technology trends underlying parallel computers and is intended to serve as a basis for developing fast, portable parallel algorithms and to offer guidelines to machine designers.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Active messages: a mechanism for integrated communication and computation
TL;DR: It is shown that active messages are sufficient to implement the dynamically scheduled languages for which message driven machines were designed and, with this mechanism, latency tolerance becomes a programming/compiling concern.
Journal ArticleDOI
LogP: a practical model of parallel computation
David E. Culler,Richard M. Karp,David A. Patterson,Abhijit Sahay,Eunice E. Santos,Klaus Erik Schauser,Ramesh Subramonian,Thorsten von Eicken +7 more
TL;DR: Enough to be generally useful and to keep the algorithm analysis tractable to produce a better program in practice.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
JRes: a resource accounting interface for Java
TL;DR: It is argued that, in order to realize its full potential in applications dealing with untrusted code, Java needs a flexible resource accounting interface, and the design and prototype implementation of such an interface --- JRes --- is presented.
