It is well known that urbanization and industrialization have resulted in the rapidly increasing emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are a major contributor to the formation of secondary pollutants (e.g., tropospheric ozone, PAN (peroxyacetyl nitrate), and secondary organic aerosols) and photochemical smog. The emission of these pollutants has led to a large decline in air quality in numerous regions around the world, which has ultimately led to concerns regarding their impact on human health and general well-being. Catalytic oxidation is regarded as one of the most promising strategies for VOC removal from industrial waste streams. This Review systematically documents the progresses and developments made in the understanding and design of heterogeneous catalysts for VOC oxidation over the past two decades. It addresses in detail how catalytic performance is often drastically affected by the pollutant sources and reaction conditions. It also highlights the primary routes for catalyst deactivation and discusses protocols for their subsequent reactivation. Kinetic models and proposed oxidation mechanisms for representative VOCs are also provided. Typical catalytic reactors and oxidizers for industrial VOC destruction are further discussed. We believe that this Review will provide a great foundation and reference point for future design and development in this field.

Dispersive micro-solid phase extraction (D-μ-SPE) as a new type of solid phase extraction (SPE) is attractive for a variety of analytical applications including pre-concentration, clean-up and extraction methods. A comparison of D-μ-SPE with SPE method from several analytical and economical aspects is presented. Up to now the application of D-μ-SPE for the determination of many analytes is increasing due to the simplicity, fastness and low cost of it. Another important feature of D-μ-SPE is the diversity of solid sorbents to achieve specific selectivity and high extraction efficiency. Many reports have discussed the synthesis and application of different sorbents in D-μ-SPE. With the rise of nanotechnology, a large number of synthetic nano-material is widely used to enhance the extraction efficiency and reduce the extraction time of D-μ-SPE. Most studies focused on the magnetic nanocomposites sorbents. Herein, we summarize the type of sorbents and review the latest progress in D-μ-SPE.

The thermal decomposition of aluminum phosphate monohydrate AlPO4·H2O-H4 was investigated in air using TG-DTG/DTA. The AlPO4·H2O-H4 decomposes in one step and final decomposition product (AlPO4) was studied by X-ray powder diffraction, FTIR and FT-Raman spectroscopy. The activation energies of dehydration reaction of AlPO4·H2O-H4 were calculated through the isoconversional methods of Ozawa and Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose (KAS), and the possible conversion functions have been estimated through the comparative methods. The activation energy calculated for the decomposition of AlPO4·H2O-H4 by different methods and techniques were found to be consistent. The kinetic model that better described the reaction of dehydration for AlPO4·H2O-H4 was the Fn model as simple n-order reaction and the corresponding function is f(α)=(1-α)2.75 and g(α)=-[1-(1-a)-1.75/(1.75)].
