Journal ArticleDOI
European evidence-based Consensus on the prevention, diagnosis and management of opportunistic infections in inflammatory bowel disease.
Jean-François Rahier,Fernando Magro,Candida Abreu,Alessandro Armuzzi,Shomron Ben-Horin,Yehuda Chowers,Mario Cottone,L. de Ridder,Glen A. Doherty,Robert Ehehalt,Maria Esteve,K.H. Katsanos,Charlie W. TL;DR: The treatment of inflammatory bowel disease has been revolutionised over the past decade by the increasing use of immunomodulators, mainly azathioprine/6-mercaptopurine and methotrexate, together with the advent of biological therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Consecutive fecal calprotectin measurements to predict relapse in patients with ulcerative colitis receiving infliximab maintenance therapy.
Martine De Vos,Edouard Louis,Jørgen Jahnsen,Jo G P Vandervoort,Maja Noman,Olivier Dewit,Geert DʼHaens,Denis Franchimont,Filip Baert,Roald Torp,Magne Henriksen,Philippe M R Potvin,Philippe Van Hootegem,Pieter Hindryckx,Tom G. Van Assche,Thomas de Lange,Inger Camilla Solberg,Bert Vander Cruyssen,Severine Vermeire +36 more
TL;DR: Fecal calprotectin can be used in daily practice to monitor patients with UC receiving infliximab maintenance therapy and two consecutive measurements of >300 mg/kg with 1-month interval were identified as the best predictor of flare.
Journal ArticleDOI
Therapeutic potential of helminth soluble proteins in TNBS-induced colitis in mice.
Nathalie E. Ruyssers,Benedicte Y. De Winter,Joris G. De Man,Alex Loukas,Mark S. Pearson,Joel V. Weinstock,Rita M. Van den Bossche,Wim Martinet,Paul A. Pelckmans,Tom G. Moreels +9 more
TL;DR: Induction of colitis significantly increased expression of IFN‐γ mRNA in the inflamed colon and caused a decrease of proinflammatory cytokines in colon and MLN, whereas the production of regulatory cytokines increased significantly in colon tissue.
Journal ArticleDOI
Concurrent infection with Schistosoma mansoni attenuates inflammation induced changes in colonic morphology, cytokine levels, and smooth muscle contractility of trinitrobenzene sulphonic acid induced colitis in rats
Tom G. Moreels,Rogier J. Nieuwendijk,J. G. De Man,B.Y. De Winter,A.G. Herman,E. Van Marck,P.A. Pelckmans +6 more
TL;DR: Inflammation induced disturbances in contractility of longitudinal and circular colonic muscle strips may outlast the inflammatory reaction and protect against Th1 gut inflammation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Endoscopic improvement of mucosal lesions in patients with moderate to severe ileocolonic Crohn's disease following treatment with certolizumab pegol
Xavier Hébuterne,Marc Lémann,Yoram Bouhnik,Olivier Dewit,Jean-Louis Dupas,Michael Mross,Geert R. D'Haens,Krassimir Mitchev,Etienne Ernault,Severine Vermeire,Hedia Brixi-Benmansour,Tom G. Moreels,Jean-Yves Mary,Philippe Marteau,Jean-Frederic Colombel +14 more
TL;DR: Following CZP treatment in patients with active CD, endoscopic lesions were improved as shown by the decrease in mean CDEIS score and by endoscopic response and remission rates.
