Journal ArticleDOI
Carnosic acid protects neuronal HT22 Cells through activation of the antioxidant-responsive element in free carboxylic acid- and catechol hydroxyl moieties-dependent manners.
Takumi Satoh,Masanori Izumi,Yuki Inukai,Yasutaka Tsutsumi,Naoto Nakayama,Kunio Kosaka,Yosuke Shimojo,Chieko Kitajima,Ken Itoh,Toshio Yokoi,Takuji Shirasawa +10 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that the neuroprotective effects of CA critically require both free carboxylic acid and catechol hydroxyl moieties, and the hydrophilicity of CA might be a critical feature for its neuroProtective effects.
Journal ArticleDOI
Carnosic Acid, a Component of Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.), Promotes Synthesis of Nerve Growth Factor in T98G Human Glioblastoma Cells
Kunio Kosaka,Toshio Yokoi +1 more
TL;DR: The results indicated that carnosic acid and carnosol, which are major components of the rosemary extract, were able to promote markedly enhanced synthesis of NGF in T98G human glioblastoma cells.
Journal ArticleDOI
Structural studies of [2',6'-dimethyl-L-tyrosine1]endomorphin-2 analogues: enhanced activity and cis orientation of the Dmt-Pro amide bond.
Yoshio Okada,Yoshio Fujita,Takashi Motoyama,Yuko Tsuda,Toshio Yokoi,Tingyou Li,Yusuke Sasaki,Akihiro Ambo,Yunden Jinsmaa,Sharon D. Bryant,Lawrence H. Lazarus +10 more
TL;DR: Replacement of Tyr(1) by 2',6'-dimethyl-L-tyrosine (Dmt) (9-12) exerted profound effects: [Dmt(1)]EM-2 elevated mu-opioid affinity 4.6-fold yet selectivity fell 330-fold as delta-affinity rose (K(i)delta=28.2 nM).
Journal ArticleDOI
Synthesis of stereoisomeric analogues of endomorphin-2, H-Tyr-Pro-Phe-Phe-NH(2), and examination of their opioid receptor binding activities and solution conformation.
Yoshio Okada,Atsuko Fukumizu,Motohiro Takahashi,Yoshiro Shimizu,Yuko Tsuda,Toshio Yokoi,Sharon D. Bryant,Lawrence H. Lazarus +7 more
TL;DR: The data clearly indicated that the three dimensional structure of endomorphin-2 with the natural l-configuration was the most suitable for binding within the mu receptor, but specific residues are important for activity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Structure and Absolute Configuration of Sargatriol, a New Isoprenoid Chromenol from a Brown Alga, Sargassum tortile C. AGARDH
Tohru Kikuchi,Yuji Mori,Toshio Yokoi,Shozo Nakazawa,Hiroyuki Kuroda,Yoshiro Masada,Keisuke Kitamura,Kaoru Kuriyama +7 more
TL;DR: The structure of sargatriol, a new phenolic compound containing an oxygenated isoprenoid component isolated from a brown alga Sargassum tortile, was elucidated to be 3 on the basis of spectral and chemical evidence as mentioned in this paper.
