Worsnop,Heikki Junninen,Hong He,Veli-Matti Kerminen,Jun Zheng,Lin Wang,Jingkun Jiang,Tuukka Petäjä,F. Bianchi,Markku Kulmala +48 more
TL;DR: In this article, the key step in the provision of required tools for the society to tack clean air quality has attracted attention from all levels of the civil society, including the government.
Journal ArticleDOI
Direct effect of aerosols on solar radiation and gross primary production in boreal and hemiboreal forests
Ekaterina Ezhova,Ilona Ylivinkka,Joel Kuusk,Kaupo Komsaare,Marko Vana,Alisa Krasnova,Steffen M. Noe,Mikhail Arshinov,Boris D. Belan,Sung-Bin Park,Jost V. Lavric,Martin Heimann,Martin Heimann,Tuukka Petäjä,Timo Vesala,Ivan Mammarella,Pasi Kolari,Jaana Bäck,Üllar Rannik,Veli-Matti Kerminen,Markku Kulmala +20 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of aerosol loading on solar radiation and the subsequent effect on photosynthesis is quantified using ground-based measurements from five remote sites in boreal and hemiboreal (coniferous and mixed) forests of Eurasia.
Journal ArticleDOI
How to reliably detect molecular clusters and nucleation mode particles withNeutral cluster and Air Ion Spectrometer (NAIS)
TL;DR: In this article, a standard operation procedure (SOP) for neutral cluster and air ion spectrometer (NAIS) measurements and data processing is given. The SOP provides tools to harmonize the world-wide measurements of small clusters and nucleation mode particles and to verify consistent results measured by the NAIS users.
Journal ArticleDOI
Introduction: The Pan-Eurasian Experiment (PEEX) – multidisciplinary, multiscale and multicomponent research and capacity-building initiative
Markku Kulmala,Hanna K. Lappalainen,Hanna K. Lappalainen,Tuukka Petäjä,Theo Kurtén,V.-M. Kerminen,Y. Viisanen,Pertti Hari,Sanna Sorvari,Jaana Bäck,V. Bondur,Nikolay Kasimov,Vladimir Kotlyakov,G. G. Matvienko,Alexander Baklanov,Huadong Guo,Aijun Ding,Hans-Christen Hansson,Sergej Zilitinkevich,Sergej Zilitinkevich +19 more
TL;DR: The Pan-Eurasian Experiment (PEEX) as discussed by the authors is a multidisciplinary, multiscale and multicomponent research, research infrastructure and capacity-building program aiming to solve interlinked, global grand challenges influencing human well-being and societies in northern Eurasia and China.
Journal ArticleDOI
SO2 oxidation products other than H2SO4 as a trigger of new particle formation. Part 2: Comparison of ambient and laboratory measurements, and atmospheric implications
Ari Laaksonen,Markku Kulmala,T. Berndt,F. Stratmann,Santtu Mikkonen,A. R. Ruuskanen,Kari E. J. Lehtinen,M. Dal Maso,P. Aalto,Tuukka Petäjä,Ilona Riipinen,S.-L. Sihto,Robert Janson,Frank Arnold,M. Hanke,J. Ucker,B. Umann,Karine Sellegri,Colin D. O'Dowd,Y. Viisanen +19 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors compare atmospheric nucleation rates with laboratory data from nucleation experiments involving either sulphuric acid or oxidized SO2 and suggest that at temperatures above 250 K these radicals produce nuclei of new aerosols much more efficiently than H 2SO4.
