Critical Chloride Content in Reinforced Concrete: A Review
TL;DR: In this paper, a review of the state-of-the-art in the area of critical chloride thresholding of reinforced concrete is presented, highlighting the strong need for a practice-related test method, and focusing especially on experimental procedures.
Journal ArticleDOI
Challenges and opportunities in corrosion of steel in concrete
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors summarized the societal, economic, technological, and educational challenges related to corrosion of steel in concrete, and presented the state-of-the-art of the most relevant issues in the field.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chloride induced reinforcement corrosion: Electrochemical monitoring of initiation stage and chloride threshold values
TL;DR: In this article, reinforcement steel embedded in six different concrete mixes was exposed to chloride by wetting/drying cycles and various parameters were continuously monitored during more than 1 year, and the most dominant influencing parameter was the steel/concrete interface since corrosion initiated on the lower side of the rebar (with respect to casting direction).
Journal ArticleDOI
The steel-concrete interface
Ueli Angst,Mette Rica Geiker,Mette Rica Geiker,Alexander Michel,Christoph Gehlen,Hong S. Wong,O. Burkan Isgor,Bernhard Elsener,Carolyn M. Hansson,Raoul François,Karla Hornbostel,Rob B. Polder,Maria Cruz Alonso,M. Sánchez,Maria João Correia,Maria Criado,Alberto A. Sagüés,Nick R. Buenfeld +17 more
TL;DR: In this article, a comprehensive list of possible local characteristics at the steel-concrete interface (SCI) and available information regarding their properties as well as their occurrence in engineering structures and in the laboratory is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Corrosion rate of carbon steel in carbonated concrete – A critical review
TL;DR: In this article, a literature review summarizes the state-of-the-art, reporting corrosion rate data for a broad range of cement types, w/b ratios and environmental conditions.
