Aerosol-type-dependent lidar ratios observed with Raman lidar
Detlef Müller,Albert Ansmann,Ina Mattis,Matthias Tesche,Ulla Wandinger,Dietrich Althausen,G. Pisani +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented statistics on lidar ratios for almost all climatically relevant aerosol types solely based on Raman lidar measurements, and compared their results to the recently published AERONET (Aerosol Robotic Network) lidar ratio climatology.
Journal ArticleDOI
Long-range transport of Saharan dust to northern Europe : The 11-16 October 2001 outbreak observed with EARLINET
Albert Ansmann,Jens Bösenberg,Anatoli Chaikovsky,Adolfo Comerón,Sabine Eckhardt,R. Eixmann,Volker Freudenthaler,Paul Ginoux,L. Komguem,Holger Linné,Miguel Ángel López Márquez,Volker Matthias,Ina Mattis,Valentin Mitev,Detlef Müller,Svetlana Music,Slobodan Nickovic,Jacques Pelon,Laurent Sauvage,Piotr Sobolewsky,Manoj K. Srivastava,Andreas Stohl,Omar Torres,Geraint Vaughan,Ulla Wandinger,Matthias Wiegner +25 more
TL;DR: In this article, the spread of mineral particles over southwestern, western, and central Europe resulting from a strong Saharan dust outbreak in October 2001 was observed at 10 stations of the European Aerosol Research Lidar Network (EARLINET).
Journal ArticleDOI
EARLINET: towards an advanced sustainable European aerosol lidar network
Gelsomina Pappalardo,Aldo Amodeo,Arnoud Apituley,Adolfo Comerón,Volker Freudenthaler,Holger Linné,Albert Ansmann,Jens Bösenberg,Giuseppe D'Amico,Ina Mattis,Lucia Mona,Ulla Wandinger,Vassilis Amiridis,Lucas Alados-Arboledas,Doina Nicolae,Matthias Wiegner +15 more
TL;DR: The European Aerosol Research Lidar Network (EARLINET) as mentioned in this paper was founded as a research project for establishing a quantitative, comprehensive, and statistically significant database for the horizontal, vertical, and tempo-ral distribution of aerosols on a continental scale.
Journal ArticleDOI
Aerosol lidar intercomparison in the framework of the EARLINET project. 3. Raman lidar algorithm for aerosol extinction, backscatter, and lidar ratio
Gelsomina Pappalardo,Aldo Amodeo,Marco Pandolfi,Ulla Wandinger,Albert Ansmann,Jens Bösenberg,Volker Matthias,V. Amirdis,F. De Tomasi,M. Frioud,Marco Iarlori,L. Komguem,Alexandros Papayannis,Francesc Rocadenbosch,Xuan Wang +14 more
TL;DR: An intercomparison of the algorithms used to retrieve aerosol extinction and backscatter starting from Raman lidar signals has been performed by 11 groups of lidar scientists involved in the European Aerosol Research Lidar Network and demonstrates that the data-handling procedures used by all the lidar groups provide satisfactory results.
Journal ArticleDOI
EARLINET correlative measurements for CALIPSO: First intercomparison results
Gelsomina Pappalardo,Ulla Wandinger,Lucia Mona,Anja Hiebsch,Ina Mattis,Aldo Amodeo,Albert Ansmann,Patric Seifert,Holger Linné,Arnoud Apituley,Lucas Alados Arboledas,Dimitris Balis,Anatoli Chaikovsky,Giuseppe D'Amico,Ferdinando De Tomasi,Volker Freudenthaler,Elina Giannakaki,Aldo Giunta,Ivan Grigorov,Marco Iarlori,Fabio Madonna,Rodanthi-Elizabeth Mamouri,Libera Nasti,Alexandros Papayannis,Aleksander Pietruczuk,Manuel Pujadas,Vincenzo Rizi,Francesc Rocadenbosch,Felicita Russo,Franziska Schnell,Nicola Spinelli,Xuan Wang,Matthias Wiegner +32 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a major Saharan dust outbreak lasting from 26 to 31 May 2008 has been used as a case study for showing first results in terms of comparison with CALIPSO level 2 data.
