TL;DR: This is the first study that analyzes the inhibitors of SMED by utilizing TISM approach and highlights the significance of TISM over conventional interpretive structural modeling (ISM) in order to provide interpretation for direct as well as significant transitive linkages in a directed graph.
Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this paper is to elucidate the methodology of total interpretive structural modeling (TISM) in order to provide interpretation for direct as well as significant transitive linkages in a directed graph. Design/methodology/approach This study begins by unfolding the concepts and advantages of TISM. The step-by-step methodology of TISM is exemplified by employing it to analyze the mutual dependence among inhibitors of smartphone manufacturing ecosystem development (SMED). Cross-impact matrix multiplication applied to the classification analysis is also performed to graphically represent these inhibitors based on their driving power and dependence. Findings This study highlights the significance of TISM over conventional interpretive structural modeling (ISM). The inhibitors of SMED are explored by reviewing existing literature and obtaining experts’ opinions. TISM is employed to classify these inhibitors in order to devise a five-level hierarchical structure based on their driving power and dependence. Practical implications This study facilitates decision makers to take required actions to mitigate these inhibitors. Inhibitors (with strong driving power), which occupy the bottom level in the TISM hierarchy, require more attention from top management and effective monitoring of these inhibitors can assist in achieving the organizations’ goals. Originality/value By unfolding the benefits of TISM over ISM, this study is an endeavor to develop insights toward utilization of TISM for modeling inhibitors of SMED. This paper elaborates step-by-step procedure to perform TISM and hence makes it simple for researchers to understand its concepts. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first study that analyzes the inhibitors of SMED by utilizing TISM approach.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors identify the key supply chain variables, on which the practitioner should focus, to make supply chains of manufacturing enterprises more agile, and these variables are structured to determine their interactive behavior.
Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to identify the key supply chain variables, on which the practitioner should focus, to make supply chains of manufacturing enterprises more agile. Further, these variables are structured to determine their interactive behavior.Design/methodology/approach – An interpretive structural modeling (ISM)‐based approach has been employed to model the agility variables of supply chains. These variables have been categorized into five levels based on their driving power and dependence.Findings – The paper identifies various enablers used by researchers and practitioners for flexibility, integration and responsiveness to customers needs. ISM is used to establish mutual relationships among these enablers and to prepare a hierarchy‐based model.Practical implications – The index of enablers, based on driving power and dependency provides useful insights to supply chain managers in identifying strategic variables having high driving power and effective use of these can help in achi...

TL;DR: In this article, the authors identify the critical lean, green and resilient practices on which top management should focus in order to improve the performance of automotive supply chains and identify the integration and identification of critical issues related to the strategies.
Abstract: Nowadays, companies are struggling to find an appropriate supply chain strategy to achieve competitiveness. Among the available strategies lean, green and resilient are considered as a new management strategies for the supply chain management to achieve competitiveness. The major issues with theses strategies are the integration and identification of critical issues related to the strategies. This paper aims to identify the critical lean, green and resilient practices on which top management should focus in order to improve the performance of automotive supply chains. The systematic analysis of the lean, green and resilient practices is expected to be of great value for their effective implementation by the automotive companies. The interpretive structural modeling approach is used as a useful methodology to identify inter-relationships among lean, green and resilient practices and supply chain performance and to classify them according to their driving or dependence power. According to this research, the practices with the main driving power are just-in-time (lean practice), flexible transportation (resilient practice) and environmentally friendly packaging (green practice). Customer satisfaction is the performance measure with strong dependence and weak driving power; that is, it is strongly influenced by the other researched variables but does not affect them.

TL;DR: The weight of data has been determined using hierarchical analysis so as to increase the efficiency of the results of fuzzy TOPSIS technique and the criteria with higher driving power and lower dependence have higher weight in AHP model.
Abstract: The current study results from fields of agility and ISM in a manufacturing company. We have been leveled the suppliers' evaluation criteria using ISM method. We weight each criterion using fuzzy AHP method and ranking the suppliers by TOPSIS method. We pictured for readers the practical function of these three models, ISM, AHP and TOPSIS.The criteria with higher driving power and lower dependence have higher weight in AHP model. In the present competitive world, the organizations need to endeavor constantly so as to make progress as well as maintaining their current position through employing the appropriate strategies. Organizations surroundings have been undergoing rapid changes among which the different demands and the variety of customers are to be mentioned. The scarce and limited number of sources and facilities are also worth being cited as another example of an important restrictions placed on companies. One way to bring down these problems is employing agile suppliers and outsourcing appropriately. The current study results from two theses completed in the fields of agility and ISM. It begins with identifying the criteria to evaluate agile suppliers. Then these factors are ranked and categorized using the interpretive structural model. The results of this study depict that the delivery speed variable lays on the bottom level of the model outlet with quite high driving power. The delay reduction variable has the same characteristics. Next, using fuzzy hierarchical analysis method, the weight of the agility evaluation criteria of suppliers are measured and put as TOPSIS model input. Finally, six suppliers are rated using fuzzy TOPSIS method. The results of this study shows that the criteria with higher driving power and lower dependence have higher weight in AHP model. It is, therefore, necessary to focus on variables of the first and second level of model in order to increase suppliers' agility. In this study, the weight of data has been determined using hierarchical analysis so as to increase the efficiency of the results of fuzzy TOPSIS technique. At the same time, interpretive structural model has been also employed to interpret the effects of the criteria on suppliers.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate and overview the effectiveness of information sharing in supply chain management, in order to increase the efficiency of the organizational performance in the manufacturing sector, as a result of enhanced supply chain integration among enterprises.
Abstract: Information sharing serves as an essential approach for the survival of enterprises and enabler of supply chain integration. Nowadays, with the advancement in information and communication technology, information sharing has become more conceivable. Furthermore, information sharing in supply chains has become more efficient by the global introduction of long-term cooperation and coordination which leads ultimately to the improvement of companies' competitive advantages. There is a lack of information sharing within companies nowadays, that results in inefficiency of coordinating actions within the units in the company or organization. The purpose of this study is to investigate and overview the effectiveness of information sharing in supply chain management, in order to increase the efficiency of the organizational performance in the manufacturing sector. This study elaborates the benefits and barriers of information sharing leading to enhanced supply chain integration among enterprises, as a result.
