Abstract: Wreath product group based spectral analysis has led to the development of the wreath product transform, a new multiresolution transform closely related to the wavelet transform. We derive the filter bank implementation of a simple wreath product transform and show that it is in fact, a multiresolution Roberts (1965) Cross edge detector. We also derive the relationship between this transform and the two-dimensional Haar wavelet transform. We prove that, using a non-traditional metric for measuring edge amplitude with the wreath product transform, yields a rotation and translation invariant edge detector. We introduce a novel method for measuring the orientation of an edge and show that it is without error in the noise-free case. The wreath product transform edge detection performance is shown to be superior to many standard edge detectors.

Abstract: On the basis of analyzing the blur images with noise, this paper presents a new segmentation method which is based on the morphology method, fuzzy K-means algorithm and some parts operator of the Canny algorithm. Because of the Canny's good performance on good detection, good localization and only one response to a single edge, we introduce the course of Canny operator that calculating the value and direction of grads, non-maxima suppression to the grad value and lag threshold process into our post-treatment process. Through experiments, it is demonstrated that the image segmentation method in this paper is very effective.

Abstract: We propose the use of spectral analysis on certain noncommutative finite groups in digital signal processing and, in particular, image processing. We pay significant attention to groups constructed as wreath products of cyclic groups. Within this large class of groups, our approach recovers the discrete Fourier transform (DFT), the Haar wavelet transform, various multichannel pyramid filter banks, and other aspects of multiresolution analysis as special cases of a more general phenomenon. In addition, the group structure provides a rich algebraic structure that can be exploited for the analysis and manipulation of signals. Our approach relies on a synthesis of ideas found in the early work of Holmes (1987, 1990), Karpovsky and Trachtenberg (1985), and others on noncommutative filtering, as well as Diaconis's (1989) spectral analysis approach to understanding data.

Abstract: We report on high-temperature density measurements of nickel (Ni), zirconium (Zr), niobium (Nb), and hafnium (Hf) in supercooled and stable liquid states by using an electrostatic levitator (ESL) and evaluation of their associated uncertainties. More specifically, this work demonstrates a detailed description of our non-contact measurement method (i.e. schematics of the instrumentation, levitation procedure and density calculation from droplet images). We find that the main contribution of the uncertainties come from measuring sample temperature and mass, aspect ratio of the sample shape, pixel-calibration factors for two-dimensional (2D) detector, and order of the fitting function for calculating the volume. The measurements are typically made with combined uncertainties less than 0.5% and 2.1% for two different types of pyrometers that are used in low temperature (600 K ~ 2800 K) and high temperature (1000 K ~ 3800 K) ranges each operating at a wavelength of 1.6 μm and 0.9 μm, respectively. At melting temperatures, the combined uncertainties of the density measurements of liquid metals are measured less than ± 1.4% for low temperature and ± 2.2% for high temperature cases.

Abstract: Organized crime now targets one of the most precious wealth in Africa, the wild life. The most affected by the poaching are the Big 5, whose survival requires attention and efforts from everyone, in accordance to his own expertise. Just as Noah (A patriarchal character in Abrahamic religions) was tasked to save every species from the Genesis flood, we envision the NOAH Project to (re)make natural parks as a safe haven. This endeavor requires efficient and effective surveillance which is now facilitated by the use of UAVs. We take this approach further by proposing the use of ICT algorithms to automate surveillance. The proposed intelligent system could inspect a bigger area, recognize potential threats and be manage by non-expert users, reducing the expensive resources that are needed by developing countries to address the problem.
