Journal ArticleDOI

Fatty acid profiling of tropical marine macroalgae: An analysis from chemotaxonomic and nutritional perspectives

TL;DR: It is indicated that FA signatures could be employed as a valid chemotaxonomic tool to differentiate macroalgae at higher taxonomic levels such as family and orders.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mineral composition of edible seaweed Porphyra vietnamensis

TL;DR: Mineral composition of P. vietnamensis was found relatively higher as compared to the land vegetables as well as to other edible seaweeds, and it is in concurrence with the recent macrobiotic recommendation for western countries.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ultrasound assisted methods for enhanced extraction of phycobiliproteins from marine macro-algae, Gelidium pusillum (Rhodophyta)

TL;DR: Two combination methods, maceration and homogenization, found to be effective for extraction of phycobiliproteins from rigid biomass of Gelidium pusillum macro-algae and can be employed for downstream processing of biomolecules also from other macro- algae.
Journal Article

Indian seaweed resources and sustainable utilization: Scenario at the dawn of a new century

TL;DR: The most recent quantitative estimates for seaweed biomass recorded in the literature for different coastal areas of India are given in this paper, where an attempt has also been made to provide information on commercial utilization of natural resources, import-export trend for seaweeds and seaweed phycocolloids.
Journal ArticleDOI

Preparation, characterization and benchmarking of agarose from Gracilaria dura of Indian waters

TL;DR: Agarose was prepared from a red alga Gracilaria dura occurring in the Arabian Sea at the west coast of India as discussed by the authors, which has been characterized by studying its physicochemical properties as well as by FTIR, 13 C NMR and CP-MAS spectra, inductively coupled plasma (ICP) spectrophotometric and rheological measurements.
