Abstract: Shoreline prediction due to a shore-connected structure is numerically modeled based on the approach proposed by KRAUS and HARIKAI (1983). The influence of the different coastal variables on the shoreline evolution is brought out by carrying out a sensitivity analysis. Since the shoreline response is influenced by a number of variables, which are random in nature, a probabilistic approach similar to that of Vrijling has been considered. The developed model is applied to predict the shoreline advance to the south of Madras Port, India and the predictions are validated with field measurements. Further, the model is used to predict the seasonal variations in shoreline response.
