TL;DR: In this article, the authors provide a broader view of the European Foreign Fighters (FF) phenomenon by analyzing this target group from a marketing point of view in order to lay the foundations for a strategy to counteract them.
Abstract: Hybrid war is a reality; war does not depend only on conventional means, but includes communication and propaganda strategies whose role is increasingly important. In the last few years, terrorist cells have spent and keep spending many energies in a global propaganda business. This activity is a fundamental aspect of the conflict. This promotion campaign serves several purposes: legitimating its authority, recruiting militants and motivating sympathizers, and intimidating and conditioning those whose cells they consider enemies. What draws our attention is the sophisticated level of professionalism they demonstrate in managing propaganda and terror. This paper seeks to provide a broader view of the European Foreign Fighters (FF) phenomenon by analyzing this target group from a marketing point of view in order to lay the foundations for a strategy to counteract them.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a new model to understand the impact of environmental, social and governance marketing on the consumer's patterns and choices, which is composed by five dimensions: environmental belief, social belief, governance belief, ESG advertising and ESG branding.
Abstract: Sustainability and impact are major topics in the front pages of media and daily discussions. As a result of this media coverage new sets of consumer’s purchasing habits are pushing companies and providers to align their products and services to sustainability and impact principles. The scope of this article is to propose a new model in order to understand the impact of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Marketing on the consumer’s patterns and choices. ESG Marketing is considered the independent variable whereas Consumer’s Purchase Intention is the dependent variable in the model. ESG Marketing is composed by five dimensions: environmental belief, social belief, governance belief, ESG advertising and ESG branding. The authors’ control variables are demographic features - age, gender, education, occupation and income. The model is a perfect tool to run quantitative analysis taking into consideration its variables.

TL;DR: This paper investigated the role of religious beliefs in leading European Muslims to justify terrorism, using survey data collected in twenty-one countries and found that the factors leading Muslims to justifying terrorism contextually vary.
Abstract: This article investigates the role religious beliefs play in leading European Muslims to justify terrorism, using survey data collected in twenty-one countries. Results show that the factors leading Muslims to justify terrorism contextually vary. Where Muslims are predominant, this probability decreases with the importance respondents assign to religion, while it increases where Muslims are a minority. We find no evidence in support of the thesis that Islamist propaganda causes ordinary believers’ radicalization. Yet, in Western countries affected by homegrown terrorism, we observe that justifying terrorism is strongly associated with an increase in religious practice, providing support to the thesis that Islamist groups are attracting Islam radical individuals.

TL;DR: This study applies and further develops realistic evaluation and realist review to provide an evaluation and synthesis method for complex social programmes such as CVE and provides insights on relevant contexts and mechanisms in CVE, which will help policymakers further develop their CVE programmes.
Abstract: Programmes and interventions to counter violent extremism (CVE) have become widespread across Europe. CVE is a relatively new and very complex phenomenon. The term itself has become a – contested – catch phrase for a broad array of interventions targeting different populations at different stages in the radicalization process. The complexity of CVE has resulted in a serious lack of evaluations in the field. Those few evaluations that we can draw upon are very heterogeneous, both in terms of evaluation method and the type of interventions that they address. It is therefore impossible to make any grounded statements on the effectiveness of CVE. Academia thus has little theoretical basis for adequately advising the policy and practitioner community on the best course of action. We are in need of an evaluation method that can accommodate the complexity of CVE, while providing an authoritative basis for new evaluations and at the same time exposing incorrect or too limited, normative assumptions in CVE policy. We also require a ‘meta-analysis’ method for synthesizing the variety of evaluations available to produce generic insights. This study applies and further develops realistic evaluation and realist review to provide an evaluation and synthesis method for complex social programmes such as CVE. The end result is heuristic development of the realistic evaluation method which provides a basis for future CVE evaluation studies. The dissertation also provides insights on relevant contexts and mechanisms in CVE, which will help policymakers further develop their CVE programmes.
