Journal ArticleDOI
Enhanced precision, accuracy, efficiency, and spatial resolution of U-Pb ages by laser ablation-multicollector-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry
TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied the transition from Laramide syntectonic sedimentation of the lower Eocene Willwood Formation to post-Laramide volcanogenic sedimentation in the middle Eocene Wapiti Formation in the upper South Fork Shoshone River Valley, Wyoming.
Journal ArticleDOI
Middle Miocene closure of the Central American Seaway
Camilo Montes,Agustín Cardona,Carlos Jaramillo,Andrés Pardo,J. C. Silva,Victor A. Valencia,Carolina Ayala,Lina C. Pérez-Angel,L. Rodriguez-Parra,V. Ramirez,H. Niño +10 more
TL;DR: It is contended that a uniquely Panamanian Eocene detrital zircon fingerprint is pronounced in middle Miocene fluvial and shallow marine strata cropping out in the northern Andes but is absent in underlying lower Miocene and Oligocene strata; the Central American Seaway had vanished by that time.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evidence for middle Eocene and younger land emergence in central Panama: Implications for Isthmus closure
Camilo Montes,Camilo Montes,Agustín Cardona,Agustín Cardona,R.R. McFadden,Sara Morón,Carlos A. Silva,Sergio A. Restrepo-Moreno,Sergio A. Restrepo-Moreno,Diego A. Ramírez,Natalia Hoyos,J. Wilson,David W. Farris,Germán Bayona,Carlos Jaramillo,Victor A. Valencia,Jonathan R. Bryan,José-Abel Flores +17 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the Isthmus of Panama is shown to have been an uninterrupted chain above sea level from late Eocene until at least late Miocene times using geochemical and thermochronological data.
Journal ArticleDOI
Detrital Zircon Geochronology by Laser-Ablation Multicollector ICPMS at the Arizona LaserChron Center
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a database of detrital zircon age determinations from around the world, with the goal of providing access to the database for age determination from clastic strata.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of Rapid Global Warming at the Paleocene-Eocene Boundary on Neotropical Vegetation
Carlos Jaramillo,Diana Ochoa,Diana Ochoa,Lineth Contreras,Lineth Contreras,Lineth Contreras,Mark Pagani,Humberto Carvajal-Ortiz,Humberto Carvajal-Ortiz,Lisa M. Pratt,Srinath Krishnan,Agustín Cardona,Millerlandy Romero,Luis Quiroz,Luis Quiroz,Guillermo Rodriguez,Guillermo Rodriguez,Milton Rueda,Felipe de la Parra,Sara Morón,Sara Morón,Walton Green,Germán Bayona,Camilo Montes,Oscar Quintero,Rafael Ramirez,Germán Mora,Stefan Schouten,Hermann D. Bermúdez,Rosa E. Navarrete,Francisco Parra,Mauricio Alvarán,Jose Osorno,James L. Crowley,Victor A. Valencia,Jeffrey D. Vervoort +35 more
TL;DR: Palynology shows that the tropical rainforest was able to persist under elevated temperatures and high levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide, in contrast to speculations that tropical ecosystems were severely compromised by heat stress.
