Abstract: The study evaluates the effect of three hormonal protocols on ovarian dynamics and progesterone (P4) secretion of buffalo (Bubalus bubalis). Twenty-nine pluriparous Murrah buffaloes were used. The protocols were as follows: OVSYNCH (n = 10): 100 μg of gonadorelin (day 0), 500 μg of cloprostenol (day 7), and 100 μg of gonadorelin (day 9). CIDR+EB (intravaginal device (CIDR®) + estradiol benzoate; n = 10): CIDR plus 2 mg of EB (day 0), withdrew of CIDR, 500 μg of cloprostenol (day 7) and 1 mg of EB (day 8). CIDR+eCG (n = 9): CIDR plus 2 mg of EB (day 0), withdrew of CIDR, 500 μg of cloprostenol and 400 IU of eCG (day 7). Follicles were counted with an ultrasound and measured at 0, 24, and 54 h. The maximum follicle diameter and ovulation were evaluated at 70, 80, and 94 h after CIDR withdrew. Estrous was detected per 1 h three times daily. Blood samples were collected on days 0, 7, 10, 15, and 22 to determine P4 concentration. In CIDR+EB protocol, 50% of buffaloes presented estrous, at 69.6 h. All buffaloes ovulated. CIDR+eCG group had the shortest (69 h) ovulation time. No treatment differences for follicular population, maximum follicle diameter, and P4 concentration on days 7 and 10 (P > 0.05) were found. The P4 concentration in OVSYNCH and CIDR+eCG protocols were > 1 ng/ml, on days 15 and 22 (P < 0.05). There was no difference in ovarian activity; however, the P4 secretion was normal in the OVSYNCH and CIDR+eCG protocols compared to the CIDR+EB protocol.

Abstract: El objetivo fue caracterizar el nivel tecnologico (NT), registrar la edad y peso al primer estro y primer servicio en vaquillas Criollo Lechero Tropical (CLT) en Mexio. Se emplearon nueve unidades de produccion (UP). Las UP tuvieron un 33.3, 44.4 y 22.3% de NT bajo, medio y alto, respectivamente. La edad (meses) y peso al primer estro (kg) segun el NT de las UP fue de 20.0 ± 3.0 y 280.0 ± 33.3 para NT bajo, 18.2 ± 1.64 y 286.3 ± 20.0 para NT medio y, 15.0 ± 1.6 y 260.0 ± 35.0 para NT alto, respectivamente. La edad (meses) y peso al primer servicio (kg) segun el NT de las UP fue de 22.1 ± 2.0 y 310.0 ± 25.3 para NT bajo, 20.6 ± 2.0 y 319.5 ± 22.6 para NT medio y 17.5 ± 1.5 y 291.0 ± 30.1 para NT alto, respectivamente. La edad y peso al primer estro y primer servicio varia segun el nivel tecnologico de la UP.

Abstract: The e ect of supplementary feeding on age and weight at puberty was evaluated in 79 pre-pubertal Tropical Dairy Criollo (TDC) heifers of 8 and 10 months of age, distributed in four treatments: T1 and T2) 8 month old heifers with and without supplementary feeding (WSF, n= 20) and (NSF, n= 20), respectively; T3 and T4) 10 month old heifers (WSF, n= 20) and (NSF, n= 19). Average age and weight at puberty in T2 and T4 was 20.4 ± 0.5 months and 287.2 ± 5.9 kg compared with 17.5 ± 0.6 months and 296.8 ± 7.8 kg in T1 and T3 (p < 0.05). The number, follicular diameter (mm) and concentration of progesterone (ng mL −1 ) in blood was higher (p < 0.05) in T1 and T3 compared to T2 and T4. Supplementary feeding decreases the age at puberty, increases weight gain, improves follicular development and increases blood progesterone concentration in TDC females.

Abstract: Es determinante conocer las arvenses dominantes en cualquier territorio para poder recomendar los sistemas de manejo mas adecuados, a la vez que se logra hacer un uso mas eficiente de las bondades de las especies, debido a sus valores utilitarios dentro de la diversidad biologica. Entre los anos 2008 y 2011 se llevo a cabo una investigacion dirigida a la determinacion de las arvenses dominantes En los agroecosistemas del territorio San Jose de Las Lajas, Cuba, en Huambo, Angola y en Chiapas, Mexico, se evaluaron 25 agroecosistemas, de los cuales tres correspondieron a fincas de Huambo y una de Mexico; donde el resto son fincas cubanas. El 100 % de los agroecosistemas han tenido la mision de producir alimentos; sin embargo, todas constituyen agroecosistemas integrales y las arvenses dominantes y subordinadas se caracterizaron por agroecosistemas. Se evaluaron las causas de su presencia segun los cultivos precedentes y, con la informacion de los actores locales, se determinaron las bondades de cada especie dentro de la diversidad biologica. Se determino el indice de predominio y de similitud de especies entre agroecosistemas (Leyva y col, 1999; Leyva y col, 2005). La diversidad total de arvenses alcanzo la cifra superior a 50 especies; en las fincas cubanas fue superior. La menor diversidad de especies con alta abundancia se encontro en Mexico, debido al manejo monocultural del cultivo con uso intensivo de herbicidas residuales.

Abstract: The formulation of the concept of sustainability indicates the need to consider in a integral and global way the productive processes, as well as, the obtaining of sustainability measures. In this way lists of indicators and characteristics that they should have were made. Concepts, criteria and methodologies were then proposed to select / derive / build indicators that define the sustainability indexes or that were part of different sustainability evaluation frameworks. In Latin America, systems have been developed to evaluate agroecosystems with an unequal degree of conceptualization and rigor, and also with different criteria. Since these systems have been fairly analyzed in their conceptual phase as well as in their applied phase, in this article we propose to compare the "Framework for the evaluation of natural resource management systems incorporating sustainability indicators" (MESMIS) and the framework "Evaluation of agroecosystems through sustainability indicators", looking for similarities and differences between them, in order to highlight their advantages and limitations. As a general conclusion it is stated that none of the two frameworks presents in general, overcoming characteristics. However, the systemic approach present in the MESMIS framework gives it greater heuristic power.

Abstract: Con el propósito de analizar cambios en los parámetros reproductivos y productivos en bovinos de las ganaderías lecheras como consecuencia de la pandemia de COVID -19, se realizó una investigación en la provincia de Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, región Costa, Ecuador. Para la recolección de la información se emplearon técnicas de investigación (encuestas, entrevistas estructuradas y sesiones grupales) a 86 productores pertenecientes a la Asociación de Ganaderos de la Provincia, bajo los protocolos de bioseguridad; donde se estudiaron las variables: edad del primer servicio (EPS), edad al primer parto (EPP), tipos de servicio (TS), edad al destete (ED) y producción de leche (PL) antes y durante el COVID-19. Los datos recolectados fueron comparados a través de pruebas de Ji-cuadrado y razón de verosimilitud. La PL se comparó con la prueba de t-Student para muestras pareadas. La EPS, EPP y ED resultaron no significativos; pero, se observó un incremento en la proporción de montas naturales (P<0,01) del 36 %, en detrimento de la inseminación artificial. Hubo una disminución en PL (P<0,01) de 8,3 a 8,0 litro·vaca-1. Se concluye, que la pandemia originada por el COVID-19 tiene consecuencias negativas en los sistemas de producción de leche.
