ReDSHIFT: A Global Approach to Space Debris Mitigation
Alessandro Rossi,Camilla Colombo,Kleomenis Tsiganis,James Beck,Jonathan Becedas Rodriguez,Scott J.I. Walker,F. Letterio,Florio Dalla Vedova,Volker Schaus,Rada Popova,Alessandro Francesconi,Hedley Stokes,Thorn Schleutker,Elisa Maria Alessi,Giulia Schettino,Ioannis Gkolias,Despoina K. Skoulidou,Ian Holbrough,Franco Bernelli Zazzera,Enrico Stoll,Youngkyu Kim +20 more
TL;DR: The H2020 ReDSHIFT project aims at finding passive means to mitigate the proliferation of space debris, which is pursued by a twofold research activity based on theoretical astrodynamics, computer simulations and the analysis of legal aspects of space deorbiting, coupled with an experimental activity on advanced additive manufacturing (3D printing) applied to the production of a novel small satellite.
Journal ArticleDOI
Towards the automated operations of large distributed satellite systems. Part 1: Review and paradigm shifts
Mohamed Khalil Ben-Larbi,Kattia Flores Pozo,Tom Haylok,Mirue Choi,Benjamin Grzesik,Andreas Haas,Dominik Krupke,Harald Konstanski,Volker Schaus,Sándor P. Fekete,Christian Schurig,Enrico Stoll +11 more
TL;DR: The weakness areas in terms of scalability are deduced, identifying potential bottlenecks for the operations of such systems and the operational paradigms shift related to the operation of large distributed satellite systems are identified.
Book ChapterDOI
Decision Support Tool for Concurrent Engineering in Space Mission Design
Meenakshi Deshmukh,Volker Schaus,Philipp M. Fischer,Dominik Quantius,Volker Maiwald,Andreas Gerndt +5 more
TL;DR: The impact of different views on the decision making during the AEGIS space mission study is presented as a proof of concept.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Legal Framework for Space Debris Remediation as a Tool for Sustainability in Outer Space
Rada Popova,Volker Schaus +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a legal framework for space debris removal and on-orbit servicing, which can be substantiated in more concrete terms by the formulation of voluntary, non-binding instruments and included in national legislation.
