Journal ArticleDOI
Cluster Cannibalism and Scaling Relations of Galactic Stellar Nuclei
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate the physical properties of the stellar merger remnants and find that the remnants have triaxial shapes with or without figure rotation, and these shapes and their kinematics depend strongly on the initial number and distribution of the progenitor clusters.
Journal ArticleDOI
Galaxy And Mass Assembly (GAMA): testing galaxy formation models through the most massive galaxies in the Universe
Paola Oliva-Altamirano,Paola Oliva-Altamirano,Sarah Brough,C. Lidman,Warrick J. Couch,Warrick J. Couch,Andrew M. Hopkins,Matthew Colless,Edward N. Taylor,Aaron S. G. Lopez-Sanchez,Jonathan Loveday,Smriti Mahajan,John A. Peacock,Steven Phillipps,Kevin A. Pimbblet,Kevin A. Pimbblet,Kevin A. Pimbblet,Rob Sharp +35 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed the growth of BGGs and BCGs over the last 3 billion years using a large sample of 883 galaxies from the Galaxy And Mass Assembly survey and found no significant growth between redshift z = 0.27 and 0.09.
Journal ArticleDOI
The 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey: the population of nearby radio galaxies at the 1-mJy level
Manuela Magliocchetti,Stephen J. Maddox,Carole Jackson,Joss Bland-Hawthorn,Terry J. Bridges,Russell D. Cannon,Shaun Cole,Matthew Colless,Chris A. Collins,Warrick J. Couch,Gavin Dalton,Roberto De Propris,Simon P. Driver,George Efstathiou,Richard S. Ellis,Carlos S. Frenk,Karl Glazebrook,Ofer Lahav,Ian Lewis,Stuart Lumsden,John A. Peacock,Bruce A. Peterson,William J. Sutherland,Keith Taylor +23 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used redshift determinations and spectral analysis of galaxies in the 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey (2dFGRS) to study the properties of local radio sources with S greater than or equal to 1 mJy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Angular momenta, dynamical masses, and mergers of brightest cluster galaxies*
Jimmy,Kim-Vy Tran,Sarah Brough,Karl Gebhardt,Anja von der Linden,Anja von der Linden,Warrick J. Couch,Rob Sharp +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the kinematic properties of 10 nearby brightest cluster galaxies (BCGs) and 4 BCG companion galaxies located within a redshift of z = 0.1.
Journal ArticleDOI
Constraints on the Evolution of S0 Galaxies in Rich Clusters at Moderate Redshift
TL;DR: In this article, the authors combine morphological classifications from deep Hubble Space Telescope (HST) imaging of a sample of three clusters at z = 0.31 and a further nine clusters at 0.37-0.56 with existing spectroscopic observations of their elliptical (E) and S0 populations, to study the relative spectral properties of these two galaxy types.
