Journal ArticleDOI
Antigenicity and Protective Efficacy of a Leishmania Amastigote-specific Protein, Member of the Super-oxygenase Family, against Visceral Leishmaniasis
Vívian T. Martins,Miguel A. Chávez-Fumagalli,Lourena E. Costa,Adriana Monte Cassiano Canavaci Martins,Paula S. Lage,Daniela P. Lage,Mariana C. Duarte,Diogo G. Valadares,Rubens Daniel Miserani Magalhães,Tatiana G. Ribeiro,Ronaldo Alves Pinto Nagem,Wanderson D. DaRocha,Wiliam César Bento Régis,Manuel Soto,Eduardo A.F. Coelho,Ana Paula Fernandes,Carlos Alberto Pereira Tavares +16 more
TL;DR: It is shown that this Leishmania oxygenase amastigote-specific protein can be used for a more sensitive and specific serodiagnosis of asymptomatic and symptomatic CVL and, when combined with a Th1-type adjuvant, can also be employ as a candidate antigen to develop vaccines against VL.
Journal ArticleDOI
Leishmanicidal activity of the Agaricus blazei Murill in different Leishmania species.
Diogo G. Valadares,Mariana C. Duarte,Jamil S. Oliveira,Miguel A. Chávez-Fumagalli,Vívian T. Martins,Lourena E. Costa,João Paulo Viana Leite,Marcelo M. Santoro,Wiliam César Bento Régis,Carlos Alberto Pereira Tavares,Eduardo A.F. Coelho +10 more
TL;DR: The results demonstrate that the A. blazei Murill water extract can potentially be used as a therapeutic alternative on its own, or in association with other drugs, to treat Visceral and Cutaneous Leishmaniasis.
Journal ArticleDOI
The powerful in vitro bioactivity of Euterpe oleracea Mart. seeds and related phenolic compounds
Lillian Barros,Ricardo C. Calhelha,Maria João R. P. Queiroz,Celestino Santos-Buelga,Elândia Aparecida Santos,Wiliam César Bento Régis,Isabel C.F.R. Ferreira +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors are grateful to Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT, Portugal) for financial support to the research centre CIMO (strategic project PEst======OE/AGR/UI0690/2011) and L. Barros researcher contract under “Programa ======676Compromisso com Ciencia - 2008”.
Journal ArticleDOI
The NMR-derived solution structure of a new cationic antimicrobial peptide from the skin secretion of the anuran Hyla punctata.
Maura V. Prates,Maura V. Prates,Maurício Luiz Sforça,Wiliam César Bento Régis,José Roberto S. A. Leite,Luciano P. Silva,Thelma A. Pertinhez,Antônio L. T. Araújo,Ricardo Bentes Azevedo,Alberto Spisni,Carlos Bloch +10 more
TL;DR: The NMR solution structure and the biological activity of a cationic 14-residue amphiphilic α-helical polypeptide named Hylaseptin P1 (HSP1), isolated from the skin secretion of the hylid frog Hyla punctata, are reported.
Journal ArticleDOI
On the difference in stability between horse and sperm whale myoglobins
TL;DR: Horse myoglobin was less stable than sperm whale myoglobin at pH 5.0, and aggregated at high concentrations as measured by gel filtration and analytical ultracentrifugation experiments, suggesting helix propensity is an important component of the explanation for the difference in stability between the two proteins.
