Immune evasion in cancer: Mechanistic basis and therapeutic strategies
Dass S. Vinay,Elizabeth P. Ryan,Graham Pawelec,Wamidh H. Talib,John Stagg,Eyad Elkord,Terry Lichtor,William K. Decker,Richard L. Whelan,H. M. C. Shantha Kumara,Emanuela Signori,Kanya Honoki,Alexandros G. Georgakilas,Amr Amin,William G. Helferich,Chandra S. Boosani,Gunjan Guha,Maria Rosa Ciriolo,Sophie Chen,Sulma I. Mohammed,Asfar S. Azmi,W. Nicol Keith,Alan Bilsland,Dipita Bhakta,Dorota Halicka,Hiromasa Fujii,Katia Aquilano,S. Salman Ashraf,Somaira Nowsheen,Xujuan Yang,Beom K. Choi,Byoung S. Kwon +31 more
TL;DR: The advances made toward understanding the basis of cancer immune evasion are discussed, the efficacy of various therapeutic measures and targets that have been developed or are being investigated to enhance tumor rejection are summarized and some natural agents and phytochemicals merit further study.
Journal Article
Estrogenic Effects of Genistein on the Growth of Estrogen Receptor-positive Human Breast Cancer (MCF-7) Cells in Vitro and in Vivo
TL;DR: Dietary genistein can act as an estrogen agonist in vivo and in vitro, resulting in the proliferation of cultured human breast cancer cells (MCF-7) and the induction of pS2 gene expression.
Journal ArticleDOI
Broad targeting of resistance to apoptosis in cancer.
Ramzi M. Mohammad,Irfana Muqbil,Leroy Lowe,Clement G. Yedjou,Hsue-Yin Hsu,Liang Tzung Lin,Markus D. Siegelin,Carmela Fimognari,Nagi B. Kumar,Q. Ping Dou,Huanjie Yang,Abbas Samadi,Gian Luigi Russo,Carmela Spagnuolo,Swapan K. Ray,Mrinmay Chakrabarti,James D. Morre,Helen M. Coley,Kanya Honoki,Hiromasa Fujii,Alexandros G. Mohammed,W. Nicol Keith,Alan Bilsland,Dorota Halicka,Somaira Nowsheen,Asfar S. Azmi +38 more
TL;DR: This review provides a roadmap for the design of successful anti-cancer strategies that overcome resistance to apoptosis for better therapeutic outcome in patients with cancer.
Journal ArticleDOI
Investigating the optimal size of anticancer nanomedicine
Li Tang,Xujuan Yang,Qian Yin,Kaimin Cai,Hua Wang,Isthier Chaudhury,Catherine Yao,Qin Zhou,Mincheol Kwon,James A. Hartman,Iwona T. Dobrucki,Lawrence W. Dobrucki,Luke B. Borst,Stéphane Lezmi,William G. Helferich,Andrew L. Ferguson,Timothy M. Fan,Jianjun Cheng +17 more
TL;DR: Among the three NCs investigated, the 50-nm NC shows the highest tumor tissue retention integrated over time, which is the collective outcome of deep tumor tissue penetration and efficient cancer cell internalization as well as slow tumor clearance, and thus, the highest efficacy against both primary and metastatic tumors in vivo.
Journal ArticleDOI
Equol, a natural estrogenic metabolite from soy isoflavones: convenient preparation and resolution of R- and S-equols and their differing binding and biological activity through estrogen receptors alpha and beta.
Rajeev S. Muthyala,Young H. Ju,Shubin Sheng,Lee D. Williams,Daniel R. Doerge,Benita S. Katzenellenbogen,William G. Helferich,John A. Katzenellenbogen +7 more
TL;DR: An efficient and convenient method to prepare (+/-)-equol from available isoflavanoid precursors is developed and the activities of the enantiomers on the two estrogen receptors, ERalpha and ERbeta are studied for the first time.
